| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 30, 2009 Bomber. Clear copper with a lasting inch of meringue. Nose is cereal with orange caramel glaze and an undercurrent of earthy, toasted wood. The oak is more pronounced in the flavor, but is very in balance. Seems to have both a toasted wood flavor and some peppery greenish wood qualities. Other flavors: earthy caramel, tea leaf, orange marmalade, resin, toasted nut, light cocoa. Medium body is smooth and slightly chewy, but still highly drinkable. Nice bitter oak and toast finish dries the lot nicely. Frosty lace all over the glass. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 30, 2009 bomber - clear amber with frothy off-white head lingering int eh glass; malty aromas of bread, bitter hops and mild alcohol spice; full bodied, crisp and dry; lots of sweetness and nice rich edge to the texture from oak; musky, piney and resiny; hop flavor obviously somewhat muted, but more restrained than the recently sampled Southern Tier version; very nice stuff hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

hazy copper tinted brown with a big ’ol off white head and a bunch of lacing.
weird... it smells (and tastes) of fresh green wood...add in brown sugar, yeast, spicy american oak, pine, bell peppers, british hop-like spice and flowers.
the flavor has a distinct note of mild (almost watered down) woody spiciness... along with caramel, slight pine, vanilla, brown sugar, ash and that green wood with some tannic (and hop) dryness on the finish.
easy drinking medium-full body...slick creamy and smooth.
neat... and weird. 8/4/8/4/15/3.9 elihapa (1052), Honolulu, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 28, 2009 On tap, brewery party. Color is orange-amber, crystal clear. Aroma is much more rounded and smooth than most ipas, and this time it works. Vanilla, hops and wood marry gently, creating flavors of red fruit, flowers, and buttery caramel. What is nice about this beer is that it retained enough of its honorable hop brightness to be refreshing, yet proudly barrel-aged to be complex. Last note: something tells me this wouldn’t taste nearly as good in a bottle . . . Hophead22 (1090), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA

Dark amber with a dirty white head. Very malty aroma, with a light citrusy hop note in the background. Flavor was very hoppy, very nice, real good stuff. ) brokephibroke (141), Mead, Colorado, USA

Spicy gingerbread aroma with sweetness throughout.
Unconventional taste. Spicy, malty, sweet, oaky. Unique for sure. Great warming aftertaste of bitter hops.
And I just spilled a third of the bottle :(
overall too sweet to warrant a top rating! thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 26, 2009 This bottled brew from a rating party poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were and left behind a softly carbonated light orange brown colored body and a good lacing. The aroma was malty and dirty sock. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of malt and medium strength hops. A decent one that I would consider drinking again. DaSilky1 (1989), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Sep 25, 2009 Sampled at great divide: pours a crystal clear amber with thin. Off-white suds. Thick sweet and floral nose with a hint of caramilized orange. Thick, sweet, cotton-candy flavors with a somewhat astringent bitterness in the finish taking on sweet floral flavors. Rounded full, fluffy mouthfeel is nice though.
