22oz. Bomber. Darker than expected with a deep ruby hue and a dissipating bubbly froth. Nose shows oak, vanilla, caramel and a subdued floral hop presence. Flavor is similar to the nose but starts out with a malty sweetness and a vigorous oaked flavor that fades into a delicious mild bitterness. Palate is medium and the texture is slightly sticky and resinous. Finishes with a lingering woodiness, but no real bite. Sadly I feel that this beer has a little too much sugary vanilla character that detracts from the essence of its Imperial IPA origins.

Jan 3, 2010 i dunno, this one kind of through me for a loop. good DIPA, but i couldnt get the flavor of cherries out of my mind when i had it. great color, etc. but it was that cherry undertone that made this one tough to finish by the end.

Dec 31, 2009 Bottle at the Relentless Thirst Tasting on 08/29/2009. Clear light copper body with a small frothy off-white head. Big wood and caramel aroma with a good hoppy background. Big hop flavor with wood, caramel, vanilla and floral background. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Dec 31, 2009 22 oz bottle. Liked a lot of stuff from GD, so I saw this as a rare opportunity when I saw this at a liquor store. Pours a beautiful reddish-brown color with a small off-white head that dies quickly, very effervescent. Smells of malt, hops, bourbon, wood, and maybe a hint of fruit. Tastes of malt, sweetness, not much hop presence, and a nice oak taste. Medium-bodied with a nice aftertaste. Pretty interesting beer, but I wouldn’t really classify it as an I-IPA.

Dec 26, 2009 Bottle. Poured a clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma was full of pine hops as well as a strong wooden notes. Flavor began with a nice pine hop bite with a bit of wood towards the finish.

Dec 21, 2009 Bottle: Coppery amber, fairly clear, moderate to large off-white frothy head, nice lacing, light carbonation. Woody nose, well pale woodiness, seems a little sweet and sugary. Imperial IPA seems subtle, very minor hop
or juicy citrus on the nose. This one is woodish all the way. Falls flat in the malt aspect for an Imperial IPA. Rather woody, not as sweet as the nose suggested. Just minor, this one isn’t big at all and ends up
with this huge woodiness without a sweet malty background to compliment it. Body and mouthfeel, you guessed it... average. Somewhat dry on the finish. Lordy, no sweet malty or citrus aspects. This is more like an
IPA or even Pale Ale in that it doesn’t see anywhere near as big as even a weak IIPA. Yeah, liking this less and less as I drink more and more. Simply unbalanced.

Dec 17, 2009 Deep amber color with a big, rocky beige head. Buttery barrel nose with hop resin. Lots of wood in this one, with orange peel, vanilla bean, and grapefruit rind. I still don’t think that most IPAs benefit from being wood aged.

Dec 10, 2009 What a disaster. Tasted like I sucked on a towel soaked w/ Jack. No beer flavor at all. No good hoppy bitterness. Just weird and big and whiskey flavored. Can’t believe I wasted $10 bucks on this crap. Fuckers!
