Commercial Description:
The Roman name for the Low Countries–is a marriage of the best in American and Belgian brewing traditions. Belgian pilsner malt, a generous amount of American and European hops and a unique Belgian yeast strain combine to give Belgica big notes of citrus and spice, creating a lively concoction perfect for spring in the Rockies–or the Ardennes. 7.2% ABV.

First released as Belgian IPA:
Just for fun, the brewers took our Titan, a hop forward American IPA and introduced a Belgian yeast strain to it. The result is unique Belgian-style ale with lots of fruity esters, a citrus hop flavor and nice hop bitterness that’s surprisingly smooth. 7.5% alcohol by volume.

Shared with Uncle Steve, Our beer Pimp Brian, taking a break from bagpipe practice was Celtic brew, and plotting to plug up those same bagpipes, Drbayern! Pours a dark yellow with a white lacy head. The aroma was that of a nice lemon. The mouthfeel was somewhat light for my palate. Hints of citrus (lemon) in the hoppy flavor. Bitterness on back end was nice.

draft at pizza plant- wow- not really digging the recent trend of belgiying everything- this was an exception- and exceptional- the hops shown through, as tropical fruit flavors and candy coated goodness dominated the flavor profile- and then the yeast did something unique- it complemented the beer. very nice.

Pours a clear very effervescent golden color with a frothy white head that isn’t very big but has a lot of staying power. Excellent lacing. Aroma has some spicy clove and fruity yeast. A slight peppery lemon as well. The flavor has Belgian sweetness up front, but is followed by a very strong resiny bitter. A little coriander and orange peel. The balance is questionable because you get the flavors for a very short time before the bitter sweeps everything away. The body is sort of creamy on it. Finishes very dry with a warming alcohol. Better than I expected. I appreciate the attempt, but it falls a little short.

pours a clear yellow-orange with a small white fluffy head that dissipates leaving a good lacing. smell is of fruit, malt, a touch of caramel, hops in the back, a little spice, and some bubble gum. taste is tangy, some grain, malt, some fruit, and nutty, ends with a strange aftertaste, dry, and slightly bitter.

Location: 12 oz bottle, I don’t know where it was purchased, 7/31/09

Aroma: Tons of yeast on the nose, a bit of citrus hops, some spice
Appearance: Mildly cloudy yellow/golden color, thin white head, spotty lacing
Flavor: Interesting flavor, more spice malts and bitter hops then in the nose, little less yeasty then I have expected from my first whiff
Palate: Nice mouthfeel, decent amount of body while still drinking pretty lightly, dry, a touch tingly
Overall Impression: I thought this one was pretty decent. An interesting attempt, if not a perfectly crafted beer. I liked the way this one drinks, its not a bad beer at all, just a better meshing of flavors that could have made it much better.

Bottle from De Bierkoning. Pale golden with arich, lacing white head. Complex hop and yeasty aroma with lots of citrus and some spiciness. Good sweet maltiness, balanced by solid hop bitterness, ending dry. The hops are resiny and a bit hard, and the flavours do not quite marry. Still quite interesting.

On tap @ the brewery. Clear golden with a two finger white head, good retention. Herbal dank hops up front in the aroma with some white pepper and spicy fruity Belgian yeast, faint skunk. The flavor follows suit with good amounts of hops and spicy peppery notes. The finish is dry and hoppy, bitterness around a 4-5 with only a hint of alcohol. Moderate prickly carbonation with a medium body. Pretty tasty hoppy Belgian--dunno what it is with its low score--maybe in bottles it’s kinda sucky?
