Commercial Description:
The Roman name for the Low Countries–is a marriage of the best in American and Belgian brewing traditions. Belgian pilsner malt, a generous amount of American and European hops and a unique Belgian yeast strain combine to give Belgica big notes of citrus and spice, creating a lively concoction perfect for spring in the Rockies–or the Ardennes. 7.2% ABV.

First released as Belgian IPA:
Just for fun, the brewers took our Titan, a hop forward American IPA and introduced a Belgian yeast strain to it. The result is unique Belgian-style ale with lots of fruity esters, a citrus hop flavor and nice hop bitterness that’s surprisingly smooth. 7.5% alcohol by volume.

The Belgica looks great upon pouring, a dark gold. The flavor is an interesting blend of the piney hops, with a little citrus perhaps, then bolstered by the belgian yeast and malt barley taste. It’s a bit heavy for me. Like the rater from Eliz City, I visit GD’s taproom whenever I visit Denver, si better beers will come.

Grand Tasting @ The Harlequin, Sheffield.
Pours clear golden with a frothy, white head. Aroma has light piney hops, yeast and fruitiness. Fat mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Flavour is sweet, biscuity malts, piney hops and a light, light aftertaste with a little spice (coriander).

12oz bottle from Norms in Vienna VA. Pours golden with a bright white head. Nose is sweet, light and crisp with notes of biscuits. Taste is sweet, lemony and bitter. Lots of resinny hops in here. Interesting, tasty but not unbelievable.

12 oz. bottle from Coasters. Pours golden with a foamy white head. The label doesn’t lie; big notes of mostly lemon and Belgian yeast. Taste is mostly citrus with some Belgian Ale flavor. My guess is this is Great Divide’s attempt at a Spring/Summer Ale with a Belgian twist. It’s not bad, but it’s not really my thing. I had hoped for more given the name and my high regard for this brewery.

Draft at Blind Tiger (Greenwich Village, NYC). Great hop and yeast aroma and flavor. Love the concept here of infusing the Belgian and IPA styles. I’m surprised by the low average as I really enjoyed this one. Nice amount of bitterness in the finish. Tasty!

Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Golden body with rocky head. Hoppy and buttery nose. Very easy to drink, with hoppy flavour. Prickly and piney in the finish. Quite enjoyable.
