Commercial Description:
The Roman name for the Low Countries–is a marriage of the best in American and Belgian brewing traditions. Belgian pilsner malt, a generous amount of American and European hops and a unique Belgian yeast strain combine to give Belgica big notes of citrus and spice, creating a lively concoction perfect for spring in the Rockies–or the Ardennes. 7.2% ABV.

First released as Belgian IPA:
Just for fun, the brewers took our Titan, a hop forward American IPA and introduced a Belgian yeast strain to it. The result is unique Belgian-style ale with lots of fruity esters, a citrus hop flavor and nice hop bitterness that’s surprisingly smooth. 7.5% alcohol by volume.

Pours bright gold into a tulip. White head quickly recedes leaving no lacing to hug rim. Dusty orange and aspirin aromas. Peppery and dry with upfront aspirin and a lasting orange citrus hop finish.

12oz bottle from grape & gourmet. pours a clear, light yellow gold with a thin, whispy white head and solid lacing. aroma is solid with belgian yeast and cloves with hints of green apple and banana. flavor is a very good balance of citrusy hops, bold belgian spices, hints of earthy grass, and light, toasted malts with a touch of sugar. palate is crisp and refreshing with a lingering, dry finish. overall, a decent take on the hoppy belgian ale.

Sampled draft at HopCat (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a clear golden straw pour, clear, with big cakey white head that laces well sticks around big. Aromas are lightly belgian spice, light apple and pear fruit, and a touch of staleness. Initial is light in body, tastes a bit stale and like steamed vegetables. Light belgian fruitiness, yeast. Not bad, a little distracting.

Pale gold, slightest haze. Rough thick white head. Cottony aroma, some strawberry and some light airy Belgian yeast. Flavor is sweetpea, dry tripel yeast, unique, and not great, though a bit strange.

12oz. bottle to a Czech pils glass. Poured a clear golden color with a white foamy head that reduced quickly to a bubbly layer but left some curtains of lacing. The aroma was Belgian yeast which usually brings some spice along with it, citrus, and smooth malt. The flavor adds some nice, appropriate bitterness. Decent brew, however, my nose is not totally sold on the introduction of the Belgian yeast to a solid American IPA.

Experienced on tap in an elongated tulip glass. The aroma smelled of burnt rubber. Once you force yourself past that, the palate is a combination of hot alcohol and harshly bitter hops. A total catastrophe. Poured it down the drain.
