Commercial Description:
We toned down the hops a bit to allow cocoa nibs to contribute some pleasing bitterness, while vanilla notes from the oak combine with the cocoa to create an aroma and flavor akin to a gourmet chocolate bar. A dash of cayenne keeps things lively, adding just a bit of heat to the finish. A Yeti for summer? Hell yes.

bomber, bottled 7/16/09, from grape & gourmet. pours a beautiful, oily black with a thick, dark cocoa head and great lacing. aroma is very nice with notes of bitter chocolate, roast coffee, toffee malts, earthy hops, oaky vanilla, and a touch of chili pepper. flavor is excellent with big notes of dark, bittersweet chocolate, cedar wood, charred oak, earthy hops, licorice, and a definite spicy cayenne note leading to a warm, roasted finish. palate is full bodied and smooth with medium carbonation and well integrated alcohol. overall, a very nice version of the Yeti.

Draught. Poured black with tan head. Much lacing in even rings. Aroma of chocolate, roast and espresso. Flavour is roast malt, chocolate, a few vanilla bits and an unsweetened coffee finish. Full body and flavour. This is a beer that is exactly what it sets out to be.

22 oz bomber. Pours a dark cola with a thick and creamy brown head. Aroma of oak wood, chocolate and light vanilla. Taste of oak wood bathed in chocolate and vanilla. Hints of cocoa detected. Very nice but not as good as the regular oak aged yeti.

Pours thick dark brown with good sized brown head. Pepper, chocolate and roast on the nose. Flavor is rich with roasted malt and cocoa. As it warms, espresso really comes out with a good bit of spicey pepper on the finish.

Another trip to Denver, another Yeti I need to crush. The Imperial stout with perhaps the most incantations, this is another GD brew that didn’t make it out to Chicago for some reason (though I’ve seen it in dubious other markets. NW Indiana? Peoria IL? Come on, GD.) Back to the beer, I crushed it with CaryTheDude while some weird drunk guy annoyed us. it’s obviously black with a thick tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee. Flavor is big chocolatey stout goodness, and a little splash of spice in the finish. Good stuff, through and through.

I absolutely love dark imperial stouts that are black as night with a chocolate flavor just as prevalent. The pour gives a tan head that stays for the whole duration. Lacing on the glass stays along with the foamy bubbles. The initial flavor is very smooth, while offering some hints of spicyness and oak, along with the more conventional flavors you expect from a double stout like licorice, chocolate and some coffee. All of these flavors are prevalent but do not overpower each other. The alcohol is well hidden and all of the flavors balance out each other quite well. A very enjoyable brew well worth the money.
