Apr 14, 2009 Pours a pretty dark ruby color, with a small disappearing head. Super malty aroma. A bit of molasses, maple syrup, candied nuts and some burnt caramel. No hops in the aroma, though they show up in the flavor - just barely enough to counter all this malty sweetness. An earthy peaty flavor shows up, as well. It’s a bit on the flat side, though I suppose that goes along with the style. Not bad, but I’d certainly rather have something with a greater hop contingent.

Apr 14, 2009 Deep brown body with some rich ruby highlights when held to light. There was also a dense medium khaki head. The aroma is strong roasted peanuts with caramel. There is also some sweet woody and light mossy notes. The taste is sweet and roasted with peanuts and caramel. A sweet bit of bubblegum comes through in the finish. Nice for the style, I am just not a fan of the style.

Apr 14, 2009 Darker brown with a big sugary, peaty, malty aroma. Flavor has some nice roast, peat, and sweetness. Pretty good, though this one could have been awesome.

Apr 13, 2009 Bottle. Short light brown head that slowly diminishes. Dark brown body. The aroma is slightly sulphuric with notes of caramel, bread, toasted malts and grapefruit. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. The fnish is moderately bitter and moderately sweet. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. Light alcohol presence as well. The aroma was a disappointment, especially the off-smell. The flavor was just OK.

Apr 13, 2009 The aroma is somewhat sweet with a bit of caramel but mostly earthy. It also has a bit of peat like smokiness, herbs, and fruit. The appearance is red-brown with a small head. The flavor is complex and like the aroma but tastes more like dirt than anything else. The palate is smooth. Overall this is not good.

Apr 13, 2009 Pours a deep brown with a light brown head. Aroma is malts, peat, caramel, smoke and chocolate. Flavor is smoke, peat, caramel, malt, a little earthy, some chocolate. Decent scotch ale.

Apr 12, 2009 12 0z bottle. nice color. deep chocolate brown with ruby highlights. short sandy looking head. pecan pie and toasty brown sugar are prominent on the nose, accompanied by sweet malts. solid smooth body is pretty clean for such a malt centric style. very roasty with lots of chocolatey notes. rich and sappy with a light licorice note on the finish. hops are modest, but do provide an adequate bitterness. a good example of the style.
