Commercial Description:
Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch ale is a tribute to the legendary "Wee Heavy" beers of Scotland. A malty, deep-ruby-hued ale, it features a generous amount of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile and a subtle warming character, at 7.7% alcohol by volume. Claymore will be available in six-packs and on draft through mid-April.

Pours a deep brown with a light brown head. Aroma is malts, peat, caramel, smoke and chocolate. Flavor is smoke, peat, caramel, malt, a little earthy, some chocolate. Decent scotch ale.

12 0z bottle. nice color. deep chocolate brown with ruby highlights. short sandy looking head. pecan pie and toasty brown sugar are prominent on the nose, accompanied by sweet malts. solid smooth body is pretty clean for such a malt centric style. very roasty with lots of chocolatey notes. rich and sappy with a light licorice note on the finish. hops are modest, but do provide an adequate bitterness. a good example of the style.

Pours dark brown ruby with very little head. Smells slightly sour with hints of carmel malt and roasted barley. Tastes more like a brown ale. Sweet and roasty, but not excellent. A decent beer, but great divide has done better.

Beautiful bronze pour with a foamy eggshell head that left significant lacing. Aroma is light but shows burnt caramel, brown sugar, and cocoa. Flavor is toffee, molasses, and smoke. Medium mouthfeel...pretty average brew by a better-than-average brewery.

Bottle. Pours clear dark mahogany with a 2 finger beige head that leaves great lacing. The nose is smoky peat, caramel and roasted nuts. The taste is toffee, smoked peat and dark fruits. Medium creamy mouthfeel. ABV is well hidden. Good Scotch Ale.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Clear, very dark crimson ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. Fantastic retention. The aroma is all about hickory smoke and mild caramel with just a hint of chocolate. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and kicked-back carbonation. The flavor leans on the sweet side of balance and offers lots of smoke layered upon mild caramel, molasses and tawny port. Finishes sweet and a touch smoky, but balances out at the wee end. World class beer!
