Commercial Description:
Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch ale is a tribute to the legendary "Wee Heavy" beers of Scotland. A malty, deep-ruby-hued ale, it features a generous amount of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile and a subtle warming character, at 7.7% alcohol by volume. Claymore will be available in six-packs and on draft through mid-April.

Nice Scotch Ale.. Malty, caramel, sweet. It has a little hoppy finish. Not sure if I would drink it all the time..but Id try it again.

Opaque sepia-red with a creamy beige head. Nose is very earthy, smokey, nutty, and some minor malt. Not very sweet compared to the general style. The flavor is similarly unsweet but has some nice nuance in smoke, nut, and caramel malt. A little thin, the smoke and earth follow through into the finish. Nice example, unique somewhere between a smoked and malty scotch ale, and rather easy to drink.

Pours deep mahogany with tan head. It has a full hardy aroma to start with rich sweet malts, prunes, figs and some earthiness. The taste is much the same with an initial pulse of sweetness quickly becoming malty and then prune and fig like. As midway approaches notes of earthiness and mild peat surface and help usher the flavor to the finish. It leaves malty sweetness, a bit of dark fruitiness and mild earthiness into the after taste.

On tap at the Brew Kettle. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aroma is slight roast with caramel notes. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor follows the nose and is really malty, caramel notes abound, and finishes sweet. More like a wee heavy lite. Just ok.

Bottle consumed out of the super cool Thistle Glass that bitbucket sold to me. I call my Thistle Glass my Thizzle Glass in a reference to a song by Mac Dre called the Thizzle Dance. I am probably the only person that finds this amusing. The nose of my Thizzle Glass produces an aroma that is rich in roasted malts with hints of caramel and a touch of dark fruit. The beer pours a dark brown with light red hues and a thin beige head. The flavor has hints of roast, caramel, a little dark fruit and earthy notes. A touch of dryness on the finish, but mostly some sweetness remained from the malt heavy-ness of this brew. Enjoyable.

Bottle from Party Town, KY. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted caramel malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate toasted sweet malt flavor with a moderate bittersweet finish of average duration. Wee scotch ale.
