Commercial Description:
Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch ale is a tribute to the legendary "Wee Heavy" beers of Scotland. A malty, deep-ruby-hued ale, it features a generous amount of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile and a subtle warming character, at 7.7% alcohol by volume. Claymore will be available in six-packs and on draft through mid-April.

Bottle from Party Town, KY. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted caramel malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate toasted sweet malt flavor with a moderate bittersweet finish of average duration. Wee scotch ale.

Color is a near solid ruby with mellow carbonation and a thin but tight head that has a slight tan look to it. Aroma of roasted malt and wet hay. Taste roasted and dry. Starting with a bold medium body with a rich creamy feel. Finish jumps out with a big roasted malt sweetness and a hint of dried fruit. After taste is a continuation of the sweet and roasted flavors with the roasted giving a dry feel in the end. Overall I think its unbalanced and a little too sweet.

Shared with Steve. Good scotch ale. Pours a deep amber color with thin white head. Had great malty caramel flavors with that little bitter sweetness on the finish.

Pours a very dark reddish brown with a thin offwhite head, reducing to a film rapidly. The nose is sweet with malt, some caramelization, and a bit of fruit. Maybe a suggestion of sulfur? Creamy full body with average carbonation. Sweet rich malt, creamy. Tons of caramel, some toast. A bit fruity. Tons of residual sugar here. The finish just has a touch of alcohol and is mostly fruity astringency. Some acidity, which I think of as odd for the style.

Sample at Brew Kettle: This beer pours a dark amber color with a thin light tan head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, honey and dark fruits. Medium-bodied with flavors of dark malt, caramel and fruit. The finish is sweet and malty with an earthy and slightly alcohol-tinged aftertaste. Decent overall.
