From Bottle August 8, 2009. Pours mostly clear amber with small white head. Great hop aroma and a very well balanced English Pale Ale. I just found this beer pleasantly enjoyable, even more than their Titan IPA. Very crisp, and it definitely hit the spot on a warm summer evening - cheers!

12 ounce bottle from Grape & Gourmet in Virginia Beach, VA. Pours a clear copper color with a thin head, good head retention and lacing. Aroma is floral hops, nuts, caramel and honey. Taste is bitter resinous hops with malty caramel notes. Medium bodied. Crisp and refreshing.

A flat, low taste beer. Not much going on here. Flat start, flat finish and not a lot of flavor. Crisp enough though, not one of my favorites.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Nice lacing, good hop aroma, nice malty flavor and a solid hop balance for the style.

I was lucky enough to try this hand pumped from a firkin at the Brick Store. I was certainly not expecting this one to look so nice. It pours a gorgeous hazy golden amber with some massive tiny bubble action, just like a hand-pumped Engish ale. The bubbles slowly recede toward the top, leaving the body almost clear. Wonderful looking beer. The aroma is light biscuity malts with a solid citrus hop presence as well. There is a bit of grassy hop character thrown in for good measure. The taste is just as clean and crisp as the aroma with a healthy dose of biscuity malts and some citrus hops up front. The finish is slightly bitter with more floral hops than citrus. The mouthfeel is what really sets this apart. Having had very few English cask ales, I don’t know if this is gold standard, but it is the best mouthfeel I’ve had on this style beer. It’s silky smooth with plenty of carbonation but with a slight prickly presence from the hops. This beer may not be nearly as good on tap normally or from a bottle, but from the firkin, it is excellent and extremely drinkable. I could drink it all day long.

A beer that takes it’s name from a great city better not reflect poorly on it. Thankfully, the Denver Pale Ale does nothing to abuse the proud city for which it is named, though it doesn’t really add much to it either. A beer with a short, gray mottled head, and a typical amber body, the Denver Pale Ale won’t stand out in any visual competitions. The aroma is standard for the style too - slightly floral, slightly bitter, the smell of rustic bakeries and a characteristically heavy lean on a caramel flavor. The flavor emphasizes a deep nuttiness, and lacks bitterness until the end, but basically a hoppy brew and fairly simple. No shocks here - a pale ale for loyal Denver residents to sip around chic parties.
