Commercial Description:
Think of it as a hefeweizen’s older brother. A hearty mix of wheat and dark German barley malts gives it a medium body and muddy brown hue, while our proprietary yeast strain provides the signature notes of banana and clove. If you like wheat beers, come to the Dunkel side. You won’t be disappointed. Just don’t put any lemon in it. 6.4% ABV.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours a dark copper with beige head, looks nice. Aroma of nice caramel, clove, fruit, faint banana. Flavor of some light fruit, clove, faint sweetness, caramel, malt. Mouth feel is medium body with medium-high carbonation. Overall, very tasty, easy drinking, I enjoyed!

Sample from a bottle and then draft at the tap room. Dirty, minerally, gritty toasted grains and rye-like in the nose. Ugly, dirty yeast is all around very difficult to take. Medium to light body, unimpressive structure, turns flabby, watery and weak quickly over the middle. A combination of gritty/husky rye and caramel malt stale bread just doesn’t sit well and I have difficulty drinking more than a few sips. Great Divide excels at high-gravity American styles, but pretty much anything they do with a Belgian or German tilt I just can’t stand at all.

22oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazed, orange red-brown body with a finger-width, light brown head that dissipates quickly and leaves a light amount of lacework. Aroma is sweet, lightly toasted caramels and fruity. Bananas and a soft spice, probably the clove, present themselves more as this warms. Chocolate, bubble gum wheat, nuts, and a light acidic fruitcake. Flavor is quite sweet with just a touch of toast. Bready with some wheat malts, bigger clove and banana taste, chocolate, and a light astringent fruitiness towards the end. Has a subtle, dry finish after such a rich and sweet mouthful. Lingers with some sweet caramel, a light toasty bitterness, chocolate, and a touch of banana and fruit. Palate is full bodied and somewhat watery. Overall, a pretty average dunkel. Rich and sweet, but somewhat insipid.

22oz Bomber – Gravity Beer Market – Olympia, WA
Aroma: Lots of dark wheat malt with a light dusting of hops.
Appearance: Dark Amber in color, Clear with a thin head.
Flavor: Nice wheat malt flavor this was a chewy bear thick and very malty. Nutty, with hints of caramel and thick banana finish.
Palate: Dry Finish, with a Good Mouthfeel.
Overall: This was a thick and chewy beer full off spicy flavors. Interesting beer I think it was too thick.

Pours turbid brownish with orange-tinge and off-white head. Nose is clovy spice, caramel malt, banana, bubblegum. Tastes caramel malty, clovey, spicy, with banana bread, bubblegum, and a complex, rich palate. Very solid.

Bottle (650ml) shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, GregClow & tupalev -- c/o tupalev. Pours a murky orange-amber with an average size diminishing off-white head. Aroma’s toasty along with a touch of sourness, bananas, yeast and brown sugar. Sweet, malty flavour along with light hops, yeast and fruit. Full bodied. Nothing great, just a fine Dunkel.

22oz bottle, red foil. Cloudy, reddish-brown color. Creamy tan colored head. Aroma of toasted grains, vanilla and oak, ripened bananas, and some bread. Flavor has a big, dominate toastiness. Nice wheat malt flavor. Sweet flavor and dry bodied at the same time. Some banana and clove in there as well. Finishes with a fairly strong hop bitterness character, at least a bit higher than I expected. A bit of fruit flavors in the finish as well. Not as expected, still very good, I just have better from Great Divide. Maybe i was hoping for something a bit stronger, at least after having the awesome Great Divide Double Wit.
