Commercial Description:
Think of it as a hefeweizen’s older brother. A hearty mix of wheat and dark German barley malts gives it a medium body and muddy brown hue, while our proprietary yeast strain provides the signature notes of banana and clove. If you like wheat beers, come to the Dunkel side. You won’t be disappointed. Just don’t put any lemon in it. 6.4% ABV.

22oz bottle shared by BeerGestapo. Thanks Mike. Cloudy chestnut with a large dimishing off-white head. Smelled like a typical weizen: clove, banana, wheat, slightly phenolic. It took a turn for the worse on the tongue however. It was sweet and vegetal with notes of banana and clove. Full, creamy body. With a few adjustments they could have a winner on their hands.

Pours a hazy coppery color with a decent beige head. Aroma is sweet, wheaty, light banana, and I swear peanuts. Flavor is wheaty, grainy, caramely malt, different.

22. Pours a muddy dark brown with a lovely surging, even, creamy tannish head. Not much lace. Crazy mixed-up nose of bubble gum, wheat sour, brown bread, and a hint of fruity tartness. Crisp medium body, plenty of carb. Weird mix of brown bread, bubble gum, red apples, and flowers on the mid-palate. Long brown sugary finish. I think the yeast in this one dropped acid before it started eating sugars.

Bomber from Liquor Depot (Tampa, FL). Pours a generally hazy dark amber brown with one finger creamy off-white head that settles quickly. Aroma is sweet and somewhat malty with notes of wheat, grain, yeast, banana, clove, some hints of spice, cooked veggies and hay. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of wheat, banana, clove, some caramel, hints of spice and honey. Generally medium body with a pleasing malty grain finish.

Pretty good attempt at a nice dunkel here from GD. Was a bit surprised to see this at the store last night, had to try it. Beautiful muddy orange brown pour on this one. Really loved the color. Nicely done gentle malty and bready aroma, light spice notes involved. Flavor has many great dunkel tastes...chocolates, bananas, light wheat, and touches of clove. It’s just a bit watery for me. Overall, a good beer...still don’t know why GD is so expensive though.

Murky brown pour with a thin tan head. Aroma is of chocolate and bananas. Taste reveals even more banana, wheat, clove and just the faintest bit of dark/roasty malt. This beer is right on for the style, perhaps just a bit high abv but it’s delicious.

Pours amber into a weizen. Off-white head recedes to hug rim. Boozy banana and clove aromas. Crisp with bubblegum and cloves from front to back. Lasting banana finish.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, Garthicus, Blankboy, and GregClow, courtesy of me and my recent Denver trip (bottled April 17th, drank May 22 in Toronto!). Dark hazy golden brown, small white head. Mild banana, yeasty aroma. Good taste. Banana, yeast, malty. Bready and alcohol as well, a pretty decent offering (prefer the Saison though).
