| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 16, 2009 Bottle… Hazy, deep, burnt orange ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Great retention. Aroma-wise, biscuit, caramel, banana and chocolate step to the forefront - trailed by a light clove phenol. Medium to full-bodied with tingly carbonation. Very sweet and a bit minerally with fruity esters, spicy phenols, chocolate and caramel. Crisp, pleasantly sweet finish. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 29, 2009 Updated: Sep 1, 2009Sample from a bottle and then draft at the tap room. Dirty, minerally, gritty toasted grains and rye-like in the nose. Ugly, dirty yeast is all around very difficult to take. Medium to light body, unimpressive structure, turns flabby, watery and weak quickly over the middle. A combination of gritty/husky rye and caramel malt stale bread just doesn’t sit well and I have difficulty drinking more than a few sips. Great Divide excels at high-gravity American styles, but pretty much anything they do with a Belgian or German tilt I just can’t stand at all.
