Aroma was a bit disappointing. Subtle bitter chocolate, coffee, and grain. Nothing really stands out in the aroma. The rest of this beer shines. Medium mouthfeel that is somewhat silky and has a sharp spicy bite from the carbonation and hops combo. Flavor has very strong coffee, bitter chocolate, bitter hops, some vanilla in the background, and finishes with an alcohol presence. This is a solid brew. sloth (1678), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 31, 2009 A thick, viscous black glob limped into my glass. A moderate tan head formed and slowly collapsed upon itself. The aroma was full on, hardcore espresso. There was chocolate, roasted malts and a bit of alcohol sneaking out at the end. The flavor was espresso, milk chocolate, vanilla and earthy hops or oak or something woody. A faint wisp of warming alcohol that was kind of nice. The mouthfeel was very full-bodied, thick and chewy. after4ever (2776), Brier, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Mar 31, 2009 22, capped and foiled. Pours jet black with a dense, rocky, sudsy, surging, comically massive burnt-tan head that’s actually bleeding more over into pumpkin tones. Not exactly the color of the lettering on the label, but closer to that than to the color of the head of a guinness, for example. And soooo thick. You know those tourist things you used to see at gift shops, full of sand and oil in a frame, and you tilt the frame and the sand moves around? The head moves like one of those things. It might seem like well, hey, plenty of stout heads move that way, but you can actually see clear delineations between head from the first pour and head from subsequent pours when you’re getting a glass ready. Unreal.
Smells gorgeous; lots of chocolate, dark pitted tree fruit, roast, plenty of sweet dark coffee. Not overbearing coffee with just dark-roasted beans adding a charred note, but the sweet taste of the beans themselves.
Big, thick, creamy body. Goopy but not tooooo heavy. Doesn’t leave you with that feeling that you want to burp but you can’t because your throat is gooped up. But, no mistake: it’s a big, battery beer.
Milk chocolate, cherries, plums, prunes, high-quality espresso, and nice baking chocolate notes combined with dark herbal hops on the finish (and on the burp, for those keeping really finely detailed score at home).
Definitely another great beer from GD. I love that these guys just continue to crank out good beer without playing into all the hype or getting themselves sucked into the center of beer geek political debates. Makes them seem clean somehow, maybe even...holy. MaltOMeal (653), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 31, 2009 bomber. Pours inky black with a nice, light-brown head which lingered. Nose is going wow! This has a wonderful aroma of intense espresso and sweet chocolate. Taste is an espresso bomb with chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy with hop bitter finish. Yum! Loved this. notalush (2676), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 30, 2009 Very thick black pour, with a sudsy lace - intense roasty and bitter coffee aroma, with some sweet, heavy malts underneath, and some hints of boozy warmth - low carbonation, slick mouthfeel - very rich, and moderately warming - the coffee is very present, but not overly bitter - a lot of sweet vanilla and roasty character - gets a bit overly bitter in the finish - very heavy, and a great sipper. nolankowal (854), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 30, 2009 Bomber. black pour with a mocha head. Aroma of vanilla, wood, roast, coffee, dark chocolate, and a bit of booze. Flavors where vanilla, oak, chocolate, light raspberry, coffee beans. Thick body, roasty, bittersweet, nutty, savory. Reminds me a good bit of KBS with less bourbon characteristics ...perhaps not as hot either. Pretty tasty and more interesting than the regular OA Yeti. fpierfed (5), Massachusetts, USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 30, 2009 It is a great beer without doubt. Rich and creamy with just the right carbonation. A real pleasure on the palate. Maybe just a tad too hoppy. Interesting experiment: try putting a little bit of vanilla ice cream in your mouth and then take a sip. you will totally taste the espresso. Pretty amazing.
