Pours a slightly hazy straw yellow body under a minimal fizzy white head that retained as a thin covering. Nose is very doughy and bready with some light hoppiness and some light yeast. A little spice and grassiness. Flavor is light and airy with doughy malt, a little bitterness on the finish, and some light yeast derived spiciness. A light wheat malt note throughout. Mouthfeel is light bodied with a spritzy fizzy pinpoint carbonation level. A little bit of a sticky chewiness on the finish. OK, but not especially memorable or unique. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 23, 2008 Bottle. Pours an average yellow with a decent head and a lively body. Aroma is very pungent alcohol, with notes of Isopryl coming through like a Mack truck on a menthol high. Also has notes of yeast, sweet grapefruit, and a touch of dough. Flavor is off-floral, with bits of grassy hops and lawn clippings. Bitter finish that leaves a thin film. Not bad, but Great Divide has made much better. ekstedt (2446), Göteborg, Sweden

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 4, 2007 22oz bottle. 7.3% ABV. Clear, Golden pour. Big fizzy bubbles cascading quickly to the thick fizzy head. I did not expect such a clear yellow color to a Belgian-Style Ale named for HELL. Of Course, there is DUVEL! Aroma is spicy, yeasty, bready, and floral. Malt flavors with more spicy florals. Medium bodied. More malt flavors, some bitterness, and alcohol carried in the finish. dkachur (2411), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

Taste is caramel and pepper along with other spices, light herbal notes and light apple/pear like fruit notes. Medium bodied and a bit sticky in texture. Fairly strong carbonation. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 10, 2007 Bottle from SL in July. The pour was clear golden color, lots of carbonation bubbles steadily rising to the top, white head, weak retention and lacing. The aroma was grassy, belgian yeasts, some sulfur-like notes. The flavor was pilsner-like in flavor, some wheat too perhaps, yeast notes, and faint honey. Mouthfeel was full for a Belgian-Stella type pilsner, but overall only moderate to light. If you like Stella, this is a good Stella, but it’s only a Stella-like brew w/o the green bottle skunk. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 30, 2007 Pours a hazy gold. The head is fleeting and noisy. Leafy, musky hops top the aroma. The flavor is a bit dry, assertive bitterness, but the flavor is short-lived and disappointing. Some estery aromas under the hops.
