Commercial Description:
Hades is brewed with a rare Belgian yeast strain that gives a complex spicy flavor and aroma. Noticeable hops and medium malt character make it an extremely well-balanced, crisp ale. Hades goes great with a bowl of fresh mussels, crusty bread, and virtually any artesian cheese.

Golden with good, creamy white head / Light, floral nose of grain and honey / Medium body, malty and sweet, with some hop balance on the good, slightly bitter finish / Flavors of violets, honey, banana and orange peel / A touch cloying - a little more hops might help, but a very good beer nonetheless.

Hazy light yellow pour with a fizzy and short lasting head. Pretty strong floral aroma with spice and yeast notes. Good carbonation, initially starts out pretty sweet. Wheat and dough towards the middle. Peppery towards the finish which is crisp, slightly bitter. I thought it was underrated.

Butter’s 4th cellar reduction. Slightly hazy yellow with a quickly disappearing white head. Sweet lemon, honey and clove aromas. Not nearly enough bitterness to go with the sweet but it is quite refreshing.

Pours a clear gold with a slightly small and dissipating head. Aroma is of cloves, wheat, honey, and maybe some pineapple and pepper. Kinda like a tripel meets witbeer. Slightly grainy tasting at first with some honey, grass/hay, pepper, with a bit of clothes and a slight rotten fruit component (it’s not bad in this beer, but that’s what comes to mind). Finishes lightly bitter, and kinda chalky feeling. Bittersweet flavor lingers. Feels fairly thin and slick, while the carbonation is moderate. Why Great Divide would filter a Belgian ale moreso than their other beers doesn’t make sense to me....I see how this would be great with food, but on its own, there’s just not enough going on to keep me really interested.

Pours pale gold with a 1-2 finger (in a chalice) creamy white head that has good retention. Aroma is very grassy at first, some toasted grain, banana, apricot, nectarine, pear, a little banana, sourdought bread, yeasty white bread dough, a decent amount of spice and a little pepper. Flavor is bready yeast and grass up front, it takes a suprising amount of time for anything else to develop. When it does, banana, underripe raspberry, nectarine, straw, spicy hops, some citrus, a hint of basement funk and some dry citrus notes to finish. Palate is medium body with a lively but not too sharp carbonation. Not bad.

Draft. the best comparison would be a belgian tripel blended with some tasteless international macro lager. Strange finish.

(draft). Clear gold color. Small white head. Sweet wheat aroma, with a wheaty flavor. Avg duration. Finish is smooth with a very light bitterness. Fizzy texture. Heavy carbonation. Fair lacing.

This was described as a Belgian golden ale to me by the bartender in the tap room at Great Divide. The color was clear yellow and the brew had a very small head that fades away pretty quick. I thought the carbonation lent to a nice mouthfeel. The smell was slightly yeasty, and banana-like. The taste was spicy and like bubblegum. I kept trying to think of which gum it reminded me of. This was a pretty good ale. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-11-2007 21:27:35
