Commercial Description:
Hades is brewed with a rare Belgian yeast strain that gives a complex spicy flavor and aroma. Noticeable hops and medium malt character make it an extremely well-balanced, crisp ale. Hades goes great with a bowl of fresh mussels, crusty bread, and virtually any artesian cheese.

Picked up 22-oz bomber from Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a clear golden blonde brew with a thin and fast dissolving white head that leaves behind a fine film and some spotty lacing around the white ring. Aroma of typical Belgian banana ester yeast, some multi-grain malt lemon zest, and a touch of apple. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with some white pepper, grassy hops and a touch of multi-grain malt. Finish has a good balance of dry and semi-sweet character with a slight grassy hop aftertaste. I did not pick a lot of alcohol presence in this beer.

On tap at the brewery. Nice banana aroma. Yellow color. Easy to drink. Probably better because it’s very fresh.

12 ounce bottle from Grape & Gourmet in Virginia Beach, VA. Pours a clear golden color with a thin head. Decent head retention and lacing. Fruity aroma with notes of bubblegum, ripe and unripe banana, spice, apple, caramel and bread. Taste is caramel and pepper along with other spices, light herbal notes and light apple/pear like fruit notes. Medium bodied and a bit sticky in texture. Fairly strong carbonation.

Bottle. Golden pour with a medium, foamy white head with good lacing. Aromas of lemon and grass (but not lemongrass). Also characteristically yeasty. Fruity and crisp on the tongue.

Pours pale gold with a 1-2 finger (in a chalice) creamy white head that has good retention. Aroma is very grassy at first, some toasted grain, banana, apricot, nectarine, pear, a little banana, sourdought bread, yeasty white bread dough, a decent amount of spice and a little pepper. Flavor is bready yeast and grass up front, it takes a suprising amount of time for anything else to develop. When it does, banana, underripe raspberry, nectarine, straw, spicy hops, some citrus, a hint of basement funk and some dry citrus notes to finish. Palate is medium body with a lively but not too sharp carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle at the Fourth Butters’ Cellar Clearance Event. Pours a hazy yellow with large white head. Aroma of lemon citrus, clove, slight yeast notes. Flavor is clean, crisp, refreshing, with pepper, and clove. Solid example of a belgian hefe.
