Commercial Description:
Hades is brewed with a rare Belgian yeast strain that gives a complex spicy flavor and aroma. Noticeable hops and medium malt character make it an extremely well-balanced, crisp ale. Hades goes great with a bowl of fresh mussels, crusty bread, and virtually any artesian cheese.

Bottled. Part of blind tasting. Pour is very clear, decent white head atop. Plenty of spice, crisp hops, and yeast. Very unique balance, highly enjoyable... doesn’t taste like it tooks. Could see this pairing well with many foods. Also a bit surprised by the low rating.

Smells of bitter hops and pungent yeast. Taste is mild yeast with a nice almost cherry-like sweetness. Very tasty, unusual cherry flavor is very nice.

12 oz bottle from January 2009. Pours clear golden yellow with a white head. Clove and honey aroma with biscuit and a touch of spice. Clove and bread flavors, biscuit, a touch of hops. Bubblegum and green apple come up later, with an interesting, kind of chalky and fizzy palate. Hard to describe, but very good. Surprised by the low average here.

Bottle and served in my NB Worthy glass: Clean first pour, golden with a small frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of spicy and grassy esters, a hint of honey, Special B and biscuity malt, apple and tangerine, clove and white pepper esters. Smells like a Belgium Ale for sure.

The taste start with a combination of herbal bitters and sweet bready malts, a hint of fruity flavors as well. The finish has a nice bitterness and spicy bite. There is a medicinal note as well. Tastes a bit like a young Duvel IMO. The mouth feel is aggressive and sprite, refreshing except for the warming alcohol noted towards the finish.

Add me to the list of recent raters who are surprised my the low average score of this beer, perhaps it has been improved or aging has helped, I dunno? As you can tell, Mikey Likey this a lot.

22 oz bomber. Crystal clear appearance with a very pale straw colour. White head that is slightly sticky and leaves decent lacing. Light spicy aroma, with soft clove and a light yeasty character over a pale Belgian maltiness. A hint of bubble gum and lemony character. Slightly minty with a cooling anaesthetic hoppiness. They are clearly going for the Duvel vote and while this brew isn’t nearly as elegant it gets more things right than it gets wrong. Light peach/apricot fruitiness with a soft spicy perfume and a hint of soft vanilla in the back. Lovely brew and significantly better than the ratings up to now would seem to indicate.

I’m really liking these hoppy Belgians. This reminds be mostly of a Saison but it’s a bit too bitter to be one of those. Nice crisp white head...not very lasting though but still has a great aroma. This is a very dry beer...maybe has something to do with the special yeast used. Light malt taste with just a hint of Belgian candy sugar. Not as much spice as expected but I feel that’s a good thing. Good one!

Dec. 2007 - Perhaps one of the most drinkable Belgians I’ve had. Pale golden color with minimal head and lacing. Weak aroma of belgian malty fruitiness. The flavor was subtle fruits and spicing, but not watery. Very crisp bananas, some citrus twang and also a distinct yeastiness. A good beer with food.
