Commercial Description:
Hades is brewed with a rare Belgian yeast strain that gives a complex spicy flavor and aroma. Noticeable hops and medium malt character make it an extremely well-balanced, crisp ale. Hades goes great with a bowl of fresh mussels, crusty bread, and virtually any artesian cheese.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of yeast, herbs, toasted malts, spices, and a hint of fruit. Poured golden in color with a large, foamy white head that lasted throughout. Clear. Very sparkling. Flavor is very earthy, herbal, and grassy with some light spices. Medium body. Creamy, tingly texture. Lively carbonation. Bitter herbal finish.

I’ve written before and will likely write again that Amrican brewers just don’t, with rare exception, do the Belgian styles well. Yes, I’m a snob. Hades is a good beer, but it is more fizzy than malty and more watery than rich. It does succeed, though, in being yeasty and spicy, with light citrus and coriander and grassy notes.

Bottled 06/2007. Hazy yellow color, big white cloudy head, lace. Grainy, glueish mango aroma. Flavor is fruity and yeasty, a bit grainy and harsh alcoholic too. Hoppy aftertaste. A bit dull brew from Great Divide. This bottle was 1,5 yrs old, I suppose it is better when fresh - although ratings here are not raving this so much.

In the bomber bottle from Total Beverage. Pours dark gold with a large thick and creamy white head. Fruity aroma. Flavor is like Juicy Fruit Gum with a candy lemon drop (but not citrus). A fairly boring beer otherwise.

Bottle from Capone’s. I love seeing mew Great Divide beers, but this is the second in a row (after Samurai( that I must call a disappointment. Very pale gold pour with an aroma that is malt liquory, with some hopcit, fruit, big grainy malt, and some funky yeasty notes, and a flavor that has hopcitrus, pale malt, funky notes, and even a tad of sake flavor. Not my cup of tea, this.

bottle. had this on tap the other night too. pour is yellow gold that has a small white head, but very effervescent. the aroma is sweet pepper old bread, parmigan, and banana esters and a touch of corn. tangy yeast flavor hits me first. fruity banana and some more pepper in there too. spicy note lingers and helps to dry this out. mint note of some kind in this one. light lemon flavor comes out in this later on. the herbal note that i can’t really nail down is a bit of a dertractor here, but this is still an easy enough beer to drink. lavender, thats the thing i couldn’t name.
