arminjewell (100), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Apr 25, 2009 A very solid DIPA, poured copper/light with off white head. Aroma was of deep piny and floral notes, nice and thick on the palate. Alcohol very prevalent, distracted from the quality of the brew but overall extremely hoppy and satisfying. yemenmocha (344), Glendale, Arizona, USA Apr 23, 2009 Pours translucent dark amber with generous white head that dissipates to a thin layer, covered with random sized bubbles like you’ll find on the reverse side of your morning pancakes.
Nose has a somewhat musty caramel, marshamallow hoppiness to it.
Palate offers what was expected - caramel candied malt sweetness, balancing hops, and a modest reminder in alcohol warmth that this is a big beer. Finishes powdery dry. k9coug (39), USA Apr 22, 2009 When I think of an IPA, I think of a citrus like overwhelming hit. This was more subdued that most. Taste was super, though. mjs (1445), Helsinki, Finland Apr 19, 2009 (Draught at Hilpeä Hauki, Helsinki, on 2009-04-19) Dark amber and hazy. Medium sized white head. Strong fruity and citric aroma of hops. Full bodied and dryish palate with medium carbonation. Malts, grass, pine, bitterness, saltiness, salty liquorice, frutiness, toffee and lot of hops in taste. Hops and bitterness in aftertaste. unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Apr 18, 2009 Poured into a pint glass. Translucent amber color with a bubbly beige one-finger head. Tons of lacing and decent retention. Aroma is of fresh-cut pineapple and rich caramel. Flavor is initially sweet with caramel, but then hops trample the palate, citrusy and grassy with a lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is just about all you can ask for in a double IPA: rich but not too sticky, no alcohol taste. Pretty drinkable for 9.1%
larsga (2937), Oslo, Norway Apr 18, 2009 Big offwhite lasting head. Hazy amber body. Strong fruity raisiny caramel aroma with toffee and pepper notes. Harmonic and delicate. Intense resiny raisiny caramelly malts taste with roasty fruity alcohol notes. Harmonic and balanced. Smooth and rounded. Full-bodied. Sharpish mouthfeel with considerable alcohol heat. Dry dusty roasty malty aftertaste with resiny notes. Excellent! Perfect balance, and easy to drink despite the strength. Fantastic malt character. (0.355l bottle, Olympen, Oslo.) morrdt (608), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Apr 15, 2009 12 oz. single bottle from Total Wine in Jacksonville, FL. Pours a hazy copper/orange color with a light head. Aroma is citrus, pine and a little malt. Taste is nice and rich and the alcohol is hidden very well within the beer. This stuff rocks - and it will sneak up on you. roborb (59), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Apr 15, 2009 On draft and served in a snifter. Poured a hazy orange color with a short lived 1 finger head. There was great lacing from start to finish. Aroma consisted of pine, citrus and fruits with perhaps a pinch of malts. The taste followed the aroma nicely. It wasn’t as balanced as I would like an IPA to be as the malts never really controlled the hop profile. It leaves a dry aftertaste. This was a nice IIPA but clearly not one of the best.
