Commercial Description:
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules' aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Bottle. Wow. Not for the faint of heart. This is strong stuff. Very hoppy. Tons of lace. Good beer, but I might need a shoulder-ride if I had more than a few.

Pours deep copper with a nice creamy head which leaves a generous lacing. Aroma is hops, flowers, and a bit of sweet caramel. Hops with toffee and pine with just a touch of lemon flavor. Nice medium mouthfeel, bitter but not over done. Nice beer.

Crushed with Jakebra. Bottle from August 08. Pretty sure some hops have died, but this is still pretty nice. Very sweet nose. Burns on the way down. Some good hop presence, but I’m sure this is around a 4 fresh. Rerate: Re-rate. Got a much fresher bottle to crush with Jakebra. Sexy amber pour with a sticky head complemented by a assload of floaties. Woah hops. Straight up hops. Very balanced, if by balanced I meant just hops. Excellent DIPA, and 9.1 alcohol is not apparent, except for the head rush.

22 oz. bottle. Clear copper pour with a thin, off white head. Some lacing. Aroma is a treat, with strong notes of citrus hops and sweet malt. Sticky, sweet mouthfeel. Flavor is nice, but not overly dominated by hops. Good balance of piney and citrus hops. Long, bitter finish. Good beer.

On tap. Wow. Rich rich rich in fresh hops. Aroma of pine and resin. It is hard to find the words to describe this hoppy flavor. Some hops have different characteristics, and there seems to be a few varieties in this brew, but how do you describe them? I tasted a bit of soy sauce, some herbal bitterness, esters, and just loads of delicious hops. Excellent IPA, up there with Ruination and Dreadnaught as the best I have had.

i love IPAs but i think sometimes they develop a salty musky flavor that does not appeal to me. this IPA was definitely one of those. Despite my complaints, however, it was a decent IPA with fair hopping and a good body. I just wish the hop boquet was brighter and filled up more of the aroma and the "salty" characteristic was less strong.
