Commercial Description:
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules' aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Pours a dark amber in color with ruby highlights. Decent inch and a half of head forms on the pour. Looks good. Smell is hoppy, but with substantial caramel malts behind lending the support. Juicy, citrusy hops start off initially, then the bitterness kicks in and finishes off the taste. Big and bold in the mouthfeel. This is a big beer. Good DIPA but far from my favorite.

Bottle. The Herc! This is one serious ipa, blows you away with pine, citrus, and hop resin. Huge malty backbone with a solid warming. A hop heads dream come true.

Bottle from the Liquor Box. Pour is a deep amber orange with a moderate head that slips back into a layer. Aroma is very hoppy but has a solid malt backround. Smells sweet and hoppy. Taste is strong bitter hops with some malts and a nice sweet finish with a warm of alcohol touch. Lacing is present and nice. Very good brew, worthy of a double IPA label.

Bottle at Volo, October 2007. Pours hazy orange, amber with a small head, floral aromas, grapefruit. The alcohol isn’t terribly well hidden, but still wonderful with a huge amount of hops and a strong citrus flavour.

Pours golden amber with a frothy white head that stays with a little bit of a yellow hue. Aromas of sweet hops, citrus, orange and pine. The aromas carry over to the flavor. There is a strong hop profile here with other flavors of pine, citrus, and orange. The texture is somewhat creamy and there is a nice maltyness that does balence the strong hop precense. If it was a little bit more malty it would almost be a perfect DIPA and one of the best I’ve had. Nicely balenced brew!

Poured a nice ruby red color with a big off white head. Aroma was really nice and hoppy, fresh pine notes stick out the most. Flavor was also very piney and some citrus notes as well. It covers up the alcohol very well. this stuff is excellent and is right up there on par with hopslam and pliney.

Very strong and full bodied, but still highly drinkable. The hops cover up any alcohol flavor. Not as bitter as I expected due to the strong amber malt presence. Nice balance of malts and hops. Medium carbonation, but not much head at all. Lingering grapefruit hop finish.
