Commercial Description:
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules' aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

12oz from Sam’s, Durham. Picked up some of this after not having had it for a while, mostly bought it because my brother-in-law is a freak for it. I was reminded of what a delicious, fresh DIPA this is. Bright amber pour with evident depths, almost glowing with freshness. Rocky head attests to the liveliness of the beer. Big piney aroma, deliciously hoppy. Pleasantly bitter flavors mingle on the tongue, with some sweet malts in there providing decent balance. One tends to get overwhelmed by all the good IPAs and DIPAs out there, but Hercules sticks out.

Tall lasting head. Lots of aroma. The commercial description above doesn’t really lie much; it is an elixir fit for the gods. And for me. I thought the purpose of IPA was to give the british soldiers in hot India a less sturdy ale than what they were used to, but this is the opposite. Strong in wort, hops and bitterness. Malty and with lingering flavor of grapefuit and multi grain bread, raisins and touch of chocolate. The only negative thing I can think of is the small size of the bottle.

660ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki) shared by Mirjukka - thanks!
Sweet gingery aroma - very nice. Sticky sweet palate, low carbonation. Some soapy hops. Full malty sweet body, grapefruity, but not exciting. I think this would become boring or annoying after a while. Long sticky sweet soapy finish. Covers 9.1% pretty well.

Pours a hazy copper with a medium head. Huge lacing with a strong aroma of pine with hints of citrus. One sip and you can taste the bold hops and nutty malts. Full bodied and you can feel the acohol presence, but it is not overwhelming. The finish leaves a nice bitterness. This is a great Imperial IPA.

Some grapefruit in the nose. A beige head. Strong hoppy taste. SOme mild toffey in the taste. Sticky and scrapy. Slight sweetness. Warming alcohol. A 0.66L bottle shared at Pikkulintu.

Big foam that stays for a long time. Nice cupper-amber color. The aroma is huge with cascade and pine. The taste is to unbalanced with too much bitterness eaven though I love hops and bitterness. There is some body with maltiness and caramell but it isn’t enough to give an enoyable beer.

Bottle from a gift pack. Amber colour, white head. Aroma of hops, grapefruit, pine. Flavour is bitter, hoppy, grapefruit and pine, a bit soapy, malty sweet. Bitter finish. I prefer the Titan IPA, but I wouldn’t spit in this beer.
