Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England Feb 15, 2008 Bottle. A copper coloured ipa with a thick offwhite head. Fantastic aroma of piney hops, a bit spirity. Flavour is dominated by hops, quite over the top bitterness, and not enough malt to balance it out, everything is drowned out by the crude bitterness. GMCC2181 (845), Bear, Delaware, USA Feb 15, 2008 I love the smell of HOPS! I want to bath in them! They always puts me in a different mind set. This beer did exaclty that. Nice red/amber color. Not much of head (one finger). Nice lacing on the glass though. Taste of hops, pine and citrus all the way through. The after taste is the same! It has a nice thickness to it. Overall a great brew! I will picking some more up quite soon. douglas88 (1556), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Feb 14, 2008 Updated: Feb 15, 2008Bomber. Pours a light gold with a thin white head. The aroma is mostly floral and pine hops. The taste is not really bitter as much as it is smooth citrus, hops, a smooth earthy malt and a sweet sugar cookie. More than any beer I have had this one is dangerously smooth; no notice of alcohol at all. Great. Mike4686 (120), Bayonne, New Jersey, USA Feb 13, 2008 wow this beer goes down really smooth, very well balanced, great hoppy aroma and flavor, this is definately one of the better IIPAs out there, i would buy this again for sure. Dogbrick (2816), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 13, 2008 Pours a deep copper color with a thin and fizzy beige head that burns off quickly. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Citrus and floral hops in the nose. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with floral hops, grapefruit and earthy malt flavors. The finish is hoppy with some citrus and pine aftertaste that lingers awhile. Pretty solid IIPA all around. soccer290 (135), Highland Park, Illinois, USA Feb 12, 2008 Very nice orange-copper color. Light head, that dissipated quickly, though left a little for the whole of the beer. Very hoppy and malty taste. Strong taste overall, maybe too strong for my liking. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 10, 2008 12 oz. bottle. The aroma is fruity and clean (i.e., yeasty). Apricot, plum, golden raisin, apple juice, pear, and candy sugar scents from the hops and malt. Bread, shortbread cookie, and bubblegum scents from the yeast. Somewhat barley-wine-like smell. Pours an opaque, hazy bronze with a small to moderate amount of yellow-tinted beige head. Produces extensive lacing. Hops dryness provides the bulk of the taste: Quinine, pine, grapefruit, and apricot flavors. Whereas the floral, fruity aspect of the hops dominates the aroma, the dry aspect of the hops dominates the taste. Dirt-bitter finish reminiscent of that of an English IPA. Alcohol noticeable but not overpowering. There is some sugary, cookie-like malt sweetness, but, overall, the taste is unbalanced in favor of the hops, even by double IPA standards. I’d prefer a bit more malt complexity. Long, dry aftertaste. Moderate to full body. Oily, syrupy, and lively in the palate. Easy to drink, especially for a big beer. Great Divide Hercules Double IPA certainly is a hopsfest. It’s a prototypical American double IPA and a very good beer, although I have had better in the style. Guinness4Duff (507), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA Feb 10, 2008 Pours a cloudy orange amber color with a nice white head. Aroma is of sweet malt and hops. Has nicely bitter floral taste with alot of pine in the finish. Very Good overall.
