jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 20, 2008 Updated: Jun 1, 2008Bottle was a little old for hop freshness, april of last year, but am gong to rate anyway. aroma was earthy dusty hops and alcohol, much like a barely wine. poured a an orangish amber with a half of inch of head which eventually went to just being around the edges of the glass. flavor was heavy on earthy hops, with that aged taste, with a dry maltiness and some alcohol. mouthfeel was slightly abrasive against the tongue and slightly sticky. alright, but I would like to try a fresh one.
Rerate: on tap at Market Cross Shippensburg, poured a copper color with fluffy head that stayed and laced very nicely. aroma was hoppy with plenty of earth, pine, and a tinge of marijuana. flavor was very nicely balanced. a deep maltiness with some carmel and slight nut notes plays a lovely backup role iin the begining and the middle, while the beer finished with lots of hoppiness especially pine and earth. mouthfeel was slick and full. much better this time around, one of the better doubles ipa’s I’ve had. toddbates (95), USA Jan 19, 2008 bottle compliments of jehoey. poured amber with a thin, khaki head. a strong hoppy and floral with a powerful apricot aroma and a floral, citrussy flavor with a malty toffeeness in the backnotes. there was an insane amount of yeast in the bottle Taverner (822), San Ramon, California, USA Jan 17, 2008 Smell of freshly cut grass and malty candy-like smell. The flavor continues this, and is very sweet. It ends on a piney resinous note that builds as you drink it. The beer didn’t have much pressure when I popped it - and there was barely any head. The color was a cloudy copper with no head. Despite this, there was intermittent lacing on the glass.
SECOND OPINION: After the bottle warmed, this became a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BEER!!! Suddenly all the talk on the bottle of creaminess came true. The hops really started shining, and this became a truly great IIPA. Note to all: Serve at cellar, not refrigerator. blipp (1612), Newark, New Jersey, USA Jan 17, 2008 Bottle. Appearance: Amber, thin beige head. Aroma: Very hoppy. Floral, citrus, grapefruit. Palate: Medium. Flavor: Again, heavy on the hops. Floral, citrus, some toffee like malt is noticeable. Overall: Very good beer. It smells wonderful, tastes great, alcohol is hidden well. radagast83 (1272), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jan 15, 2008 Sampled from 12 oz bottle. Slightly amber pour, with a nice white head. Aroma is like that of fresh hops, crushed into liquid form. As you might expect the taste is like liquid hops, but has a nice balance with the malts to keep this beer balanced. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. restless7 (104), Lenexa, Kansas, USA Jan 14, 2008 ON TAP: amber/clear appearance with white rapidly dissipating head. piney aroma. Nice effervescence and mouth feel without too strong of alcohol content. Dry bitter finish is nice and refreshing, beckoning my mouth for more. hoppopotamus (182), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jan 14, 2008 Disclaimer: I’m a hophead. Beautiful reddish amber color with slight haze, topped by a creamy head. Aroma is hop city, with pine and citrus. Smells like I imagine and hope Washington state smells. Taste is hop-dominated, but the malt is surprisingly present for a DIPA. I never noticed the high alcohol, and it finished bitter. gpekar (221), Maryland, USA Jan 13, 2008 Bomber bottle. Poured a clear amber color with a thick, creamy, foamy head. The head had great lacing throughout the glass. A nice hop aroma. There was a great crisp hop bite with a subtle sweetness underneath that mellowed the hopiness. The flavor lasted on the palate for a nice long finish. Great beer
