Commercial Description:
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules' aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

DBF 2005. Amber, good lasting off white head and good condition. Good resinous hop and background sweet caramel malt notes in the nose, full bodied in the mouth with the hefty caramel sweetness more than amply balanced by solid resinous hops. Lingering hoppy finish with a tingling bitterness.

In the bottle at the Beertopia Great Divide tasting. Pours a dark amber with an off white head. Fruity berry hop aromas round out the intense hop bouquet. The flavor has a giant malt sweetness to the punch which is so large that it is even in need of even more boiling hops. I think I prefer Titan ever so slightly.

Big offwhite lasting head. Hazy amber body. Strong fruity raisiny caramel aroma with toffee and pepper notes. Harmonic and delicate. Intense resiny raisiny caramelly malts taste with roasty fruity alcohol notes. Harmonic and balanced. Smooth and rounded. Full-bodied. Sharpish mouthfeel with considerable alcohol heat. Dry dusty roasty malty aftertaste with resiny notes. Excellent! Perfect balance, and easy to drink despite the strength. Fantastic malt character. (0.355l bottle, Olympen, Oslo.)

Dark orange with big and thick, slowly dissapearing foam. Bittersweet piney aroma, hints of grapefruit and pine-apples. Very hoppy, grapefruity and piney flavour with sweet undertones of exotic fruit. Long hopbitter finish.

The dominant aroma is herbal. There are light citrus notes as well. A great looking beer. Dark orange and slightly cloudy, with a large and creamy white head; it looks as if it could have come from a cask. The flavor is predominately floral/herbal, with only a little citrus flavor. A very bitter beer. Heavy, creamy palate.

Pours with a large, creamy, off-white head, covering a hazed amber body with some particles in it. Great lace. Good retention. Aroma is ultra sweet, perfrume hops and some caramel or even chocolate malts. Honey and maybe some orange. Very malty tastes, then a bitter body. Spend a long time sipping this one. Has a bit of orange, more of an American barley wine than a DIPA. Orange and light vanilla with caramel and a hint of special B. Thick body, but a bit too fizzy carbonation.

Bottle. Amber color with a big off-white head. Big hoppy aroma of mostly grapefruit. Grapefruit and resin flavors with a good malt backing and some spiciness. Thick and full bodied. I love the style, but I don’t think this is better than many of the others out there.

Pours a clear reddish copper color with a thick, creamy, lasting white head. Strong and appealing aroma of citrusy hops. Excellent flavor of typical west coast citrusy hops with carame. The finish is bitter, strong and lasting. The palate is medium and creamy and the carbonation is soft. Excellent, after having the Titan IPA I was looking forward to try this one and it’s definitely not a let down, now I look forward to try Great Divide’s other beers !
