Commercial Description:
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules' aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Bottle (65 cl) from Barley Wine, Copenhagen, Denmark. Hazy orange amber with a rich and creamy off-white head with a yellow tinge. Strong piney and citric hops dominate in front of a caramelly malt backbone. Alcohol is evident but not prominent. Medium to thick in body and velvetly smooth. Immensly bitter yet balanced. A very good DIPA.

Deep orange color with a small frothy, some legs on the glass leaving head. Medium spruce and cheese nose. Dry alcohol finish. Medium to extreme bitterness with alcohol, coffee and nutty flavors. Actually it reminded me more to a Barley Wine. I guess if you can*t take it you are a wussy - I’m not a wussy :-)

22oz bottle. Hazy, Creamy appearance. Orange, copper color, creamy head. Smells just like a DIPA should! Heavy hitting citrus, floral aroma. Flavor has a slight hint of malt which is covered hop bitterness. The nutty, toffee flavor, unfortunately does not last long on the palate as I wish i would. Reminds me alot of Summer YuleSmith.

12 ounce bottle from Papou’s in Sylva, NC. Pours a very hazy orange color with floaties. Thin head with fair retention and lacing. Aroma is citrus cops with lots of brown sugar and toffee. Taste is toffee, brown sugar, caramel and very earthy, resiny, citrus hops. Very slight alcohol warmth. Full bodied. Overall quite drinkable, which at 9.1% scares me a little.

oooooh, now this is my kind of brew!! Copper orange, light tan head with lacing that sinks down the sides like a setting sun. Aroma is super fruity citrus hops - pow! Thick bodied - sure, there’s malts, but who gives a c$%p about the malts!?!?!? (they are thick and sweet - kind of like a lozenge) This is about the hops, dude! Can hops provide balance to each other? We’ve got here citrusy grapefruit, lemon-lime, sure apricots (it’s funny - somebody at work gave me a handful of fresh dried apricots today; so yes, I recognize some apricot here), pine sap, oak, and many more hop flavors. Very nice stuff.

Another nice offering within the IPA/Double IPA family. This one poured with a very impressive head and was amber-orange in color. The lacing was great and stuck to the glass walls up through complete dryness. The aroma was pine trees and light alcohol. The flavor was definite pine hops with the citrus only playing a minor role (no strong grapefruits). Malty background wasn’t sickly sweet and this is one of the more drinkable DIPAs out there. A nice choice within this style.

This double IPA pours with a beautiful cristal clear amber body topped by a thick off-white head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is sweet, grapefruity and hoppy with a slight pine note and a nice malty background. The flavor is sweet and malty with slight caramel notes, bitter piney notes and a touch of citrus. Full bodied, smooth warming and dry.
