Commercial Description:
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules' aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Another nice offering within the IPA/Double IPA family. This one poured with a very impressive head and was amber-orange in color. The lacing was great and stuck to the glass walls up through complete dryness. The aroma was pine trees and light alcohol. The flavor was definite pine hops with the citrus only playing a minor role (no strong grapefruits). Malty background wasn’t sickly sweet and this is one of the more drinkable DIPAs out there. A nice choice within this style.

Bottle (Courtesy of Daalamar): Poured an hazy light amber color ale with a huge slight off-white head with pretty good retention. Aroma of deep citrusy and grapefruit hops. Taste is unsurprisingly bitter with some nice touch of citrus and grapefruit with a strong caramel malt presence. A bit too overpowered on hops for my own personal liking but I still appreciated the craftsmanship.

650 ml bottle mail order from liquidsolutions. Hazy orange with a fizzy white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, and pine. Moderately bitter citrus and pine taste with some sweet burnt caramel characteristics to the malt and a perfume hoppiness to the finish. Decent overall.

Wow, this beer smells fantastic! The aroma hit me as I poured it with the glass a good 2 feet from my nose. This is a rare case when my notes are a dead ringer for the commercial description. I can’t think of anything I would change. I will go on to say that this really is a fantastic beer. The malt does an incredible job of balancing out the prominent hoppy punch. This is a heavy beer and it gets a bit syrupy as it warms, so I suggest drinking it as cold as possible. Strong recommendation.

Rerate, 355 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.1%., 85 IBU. Orange to amber colour, slightly hazy. Moderate but lasting off-white head with an orangey hue. Pleasant aroma of fruity American hops. The flavour is an aggressive hoppy explosion from start to finish, on a malty sweet (too sweet?) background. Very bitter aftertaste. "Not for the faint of heart" - but I MIGHT get used to this ... I’m upping it a point. Original rating: Bottle, at The Rover, Göteborg. Amber colour, hazy. Sweet and alcoholic aroma and flavour, but also plenty of hops, as expected from a "double IPA". A bit overdone on both sweetness and hops in my book, but still a good beer.

on tap at Great Divide. I’ve had this brew a lot before but not in the past few years. pours hazy golden with white head. nose is extremely perfumy with pine and citrus notes. flavor is again, very very perfumy and astringent. sweet caramel malt notes balance it out. alcohol is well hidden. I don’t recall the hops being so perfumy which really bothered me in a double ipa.

Poured coppery amber color with a beautiful white as snow head...aroma is very floral with a touch of alcohol...definately a hoppy aroma...tastes a little sweet at first then you get the hops...first it is a warm wooly feeling, the it just gets bitter...bitter, and bitter...finish has a touch of alcohol, and that is way mild for 9.1%...then bitter...this is a fantastic IIPA...
