Dark orange color, clear, with a decent head. Aroma caught my attention right away, as it had a sweet molasses component along with a pungent earthy hop aroma. Not often that the malts actually show up in the aroma profile of an IIPA. Full mouth starts off with sweet caramel malts, a touch of nut, and then moves nicely into earthy hops, a bit of pine, faint grapefruit, and a satisfying bitterness. This is one well made brew. Should note that the 9.1 is nicely masked. bluevegie (2201), Perth, Australia
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 15, 2007 Pours a lovely orangey amber body with a decent white head. Plenty of hops thrown into this brew, the aroma brings some sweet orange fruit after you get past the hops and in the taste, after the hops, there is some caramel. This has a long finish and hidden alcohol. DYCSoccer17 (2192), Davis, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 1, 2005 Bottle. Piney-citrus aroma with lots of orange notes--kind of like an orange cleanser. Some sweet malts also come through slightly. This has a very large West-Coast feel to it. Transparent amber/copper color with frothy, long-lasting light yellowish head. Piney-citrusy sweet notes to start with a nice sweet caramelly malty middle. Finishes piney with hops. Hides the alcohol well. Nice IIPA that’s very reminiscent of many of the IIPAs I had on my San Diego excursion. willblake (2177), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Pours a dark, copperish; slight white head with foamy islands. Aromas of c-hops, citrus and pine nicely balanced between midwest and west coast. Flavors are grand with a great balance. Very reminiscent of DFH 90 min. Quite sweet in the middle. Hops leave a satisfying tingle on and after the finish. Unfortunately, it is slightly cloying. Big, syrupy mouthfeel, very soft, very sensual. Nice stuff...I’m a better person having tried this beer. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA

Tight silky white head and clear orange-copper body. Strong pine and grapefruit in the nose. Malts are mostly buried at first and then gradually reveal a cherry quality. Big woodsy hop flavor. Like a boreal forest with occasional fruits for gleaning. This is a hop monster. Fresh Hercules is a demi-god among Imperial IPAs (and Dreadnaught is a god). Ho-hum when not so fresh. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2008 Bottle. Orange appearance and pourued
with a big head. Hops are present but not so many as I had expected. Smooth and easy to drink with more bitterness that this class of beer usually displays.
Excellent. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

Tea colored with a fat white head. Nice malt profile running through this. Initial sip is sweet and bitter like not yet ripe bananna peel. Hops are not really over the top unless you really clamp the tongue to the roof of the mouth to expreience the bitterness. Very nicely done beer.
