Commercial Description:
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules' aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Citrusy aroma with huge hops and a mild sweetness. Tea colored with a fat white head. Nice malt profile running through this. Initial sip is sweet and bitter like not yet ripe bananna peel. Hops are not really over the top unless you really clamp the tongue to the roof of the mouth to expreience the bitterness. Very nicely done beer.

I was expecting to be bowled over by piney, grapefruity hops but this beer opens up with a malt assault instead- big, chewy breads, toast, and crackers and hints of caramel back up the earthy, bitter (but not overwhelming) hops bill. The body is soapy and full. Semi-astringent finish with lingering resins. I’ve sampled several I2PAs and this isn’t exactly unique, but it is a step up from Great Divide’s very average Titan IPA.

[draft at The Old Toad, Rochester, NY] Dark and hazy orange color with a lasting and puffy tan head. Very nice aroma of hops, sweetness and a touch of malts. Lots of hops in the aroma. The taste has a wonderful sweetness to it that gently gives way to the hop experience lying underneath. The finish is slightly bitter and sweet. Very nice and easy to drink.

Hazy orange out of the bottle with a quick beige head. Wonderful fresh hop aroma that reminded me of pineapple upside down cake. Big flavor with apple, pineapple and candied grapefruit rind. Lots of candi sugar sweetness with tons of very lively fresh hops. I love beers like this.

Bottle. Amberish brown in colour with a large head. Well balanced. Both hoppy and malty. Nice bitterness as well as maltyness.

Bottle@Olympen, Oslo. A thick, stable offwhite head over a hazy, amber-brown colored body. Intense hop aroma, citrus, tropical and resin, supported by a sweeitish caramel scent. Full malt body, quite grainy and fairly sweet, with a generous amount of fruity and piny hops. Thick oily mouthfeel. Nearly full-bodied. Everlasting fruity bitter ending. Very potent, well balanced, and highly enjoyable.
