| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jul 25, 2004 Rich copper. Caked-on dusty-white spackled foam. Rounded citrus scents intertwined with pine sap and peach. Hints of fir, hop leaves, and jellied/lightly toasted malts. Plush and sappy on the palate with thick, creamy bubbles. Hops unleash their intense spiciness with tongue-numbing hop resin chased by a softening peach flavor. Plush pine coats the palate and yields an abundance of raw cane sugar, which beautifully highlights the rounder citrusy hop nuances. Well-structured toasted malt anchor. Pine and raw cane sugar continue with their brashness and become fatiguing by the end of the first glass. Finishes medicinal and oversweet, yet packed with enough juicy hops, toasted malt, and sweet graham to briefly allow the softer hop elements to come through. Jellied malts and citrus notes linger before an ensuing, albeit restrained, mixture of piney/citrusy hop belches. Overall a very nice mouthfeel and enough interesting hop flavors to keep your attention, but the alcohol and sugary sweetness are distracting. Another Double IPA which is muddled, due to the full assortment of hops used. Still I’d gladly buy it again to satiate a massive hop fix. PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 15, 2004 Cloudy copper-amber, foaming head. Lots of lacing. Nice floral and grapefruit aroma. Smooth if highly resiny and thick mouthfeel. Doughy bready cookieish malts, buttered scones. Hop flavors are surprisingly restrained, but the finish is plenty bitter and peppery. Outstanding balance and drinkability. radiomgb (2072), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 28, 2005 Bottle. Deep ruby/amber in colour, large off white lingering head, some lace. The aroma was all malty (caramel, molasses, earthy) upfront but the floral and citrus (oranges, grapefruit) hops along with some pine were not far behind. The flavour was of citrus hops (oranges, grapefruit), malt (caramel, earthy, some woodyness). Chewy mouthfeel, large body, high carbonation. Finishes with a very long and dry hop bitterness. Nice beer. Thanks for this one snowtiger. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 9, 2006 Updated: Jun 24, 2006Pours a nice dark amber color with off-white head that goes away fairly quickly. Aroma is heavy citrus hops - mainly grapefruit with some pine in there as well. There is the citrus hop from the aroma but more, lots of dry caramel malts and more pine hops than on the aroma as well. As the beer goes down there is more dryness to the pine aspects. Full bodied with nice carbonation. Excellect beer worth seeking out. patrick767 (2051), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 4, 2006 22 oz bottle, all mine, as it should be - Pours a murky dark orange with a big head that leaves a bit of lacing. The citrus hops aroma is very assertive and very nice. High quality hops are apparent immediately. The flavor is, of course, very hoppy. Citrus notes come through and the intense hops are well balanced by a big malt presence. The palate is full bodied and the long, bitter hops finish is a real treat. Excellent. cheapdark (2049), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 6/20 | Jan 18, 2007 Updated: Dec 31, 2007On tap at the Bocktown Bar & Grill in Robinson. First let me begin by saying IPA is not my favorite style, so don’t expect a glowing review of this beer, tho it is well within it’s style. Pours nice, almost transparent yellow orange with a nice head. Head is alabaster ivory and it really hangs in there. Good hoppy floral aroma that sticks out in your face. Of course the flavor is hops, hops and more hops. Am I chewing on a big grapefruit peel? Seems like it. Exceptionally hoppy, can’t ignore that fact. It really overwhelms the flavors of this beer, but I guess it is supposed to. This is an excellent example of the style. If you like hos, you gotta have this on you must try list. One step above titan as far as hops go. Finish is similar to the effect you get when you eat an almost ripe grapefruit rind. Never would have guessed this is 9%, it is hidden well.
