Didn’t seem as bitter as most in this class which was disappointing. The darkish red color did not match the hoppy aroma. Maybe I expected too much. Beware..this is a STRONG beer. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 7, 2006 Pours a deep dark orangish amber color. Aromas of big hop action, sweet malts, and more hops. Flavor has some bready malty tastes with nice grapefruit and floral hop taste. This is one huge bitter hoppy bastard. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 20, 2004 Amber red pour, little head and lots of spots of lacing. Piney and floral aromas. Bitter hops. Reminds me of styrians (probably wrong though.) Small malt backing with a big bitter punch. Plenty of citrus as well. The same hops in the flavor, with the citrus coming out more. Light malts balance it just slightly. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2004 Pours a very think copper with little or no head. Aroma is of course very hoppy and the flavor is like a Carolina pine forest. Very piney and citrusy. NIce hop overpowering you expect. The swallow is chewy and thick. Lots of good stuff happining here. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 1, 2005 22 oz. bottle - thanks so much to slob for the trade! Oddly enough, even though, So. California is a lot closer to Denver than Maryland is, I can’t buy Great Divide products here. Pours clear, deep orange-coppery color just as the commercial description promises, with a moderate off-white head that leaves spotty rather than substancial lace in the glass. The aroma delivers a caramel malt scent which is quickly almost completely overpowered by grapefruit and spruce hops, with a hint of alcohol noticible as well. The flavor is also dominated by the huge hop presence, again grapefruit and spruce with a big, sweet malt backbone to support and complement the lupulin lusciousness and help to hide the significant alcohol content. Full body and creamy carbonation. This is an in-your-face and quite good IIPA. Thanks Bert! Dorwart (1829), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 14, 2005 Updated: Nov 15, 2005Good sized dense and frothy head of fine bubbles. Thick sticky sheet of lacing remains. Light carbonation. Nice hoppy aroma with a bit of roastyness and caramel. Little bit of citrus but the hops dissapate out of the aroma pretty quickly. Needs more big JUICY hops. Color is a dark amber. Nice hoppy flavor with a good bit of roastyness. Thick and sweet palate with loads of malt. More caramel, orange and some spruce. Hides its alcohol very well. Does warm as it goes down. Thick hoppy bitter finish. Honestly, the hops are a little on the meager side and get washed out by the thick heavy malts. This is my only gripe against this beer. Otherwise, a very good double IPA. lithy (1820), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 8, 2008 Very clear light copper orange body and a creamy finger of off white head. Aroma of grapefruit citrusy hops and some caramel maltiness. Nice body seems deceptively light on malt and doesn’t let on to the punishing onslaught of hops in the finish. Bitter, citrusy, very potent with a lasting presence on the tongue. Rivals DFH 90 min for me. rederic (1815), montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 24, 2006 On tap at Dieu du Ciel, cloudy amber-orangeish hue, with a rocky beige head, sweet caramelized malt, with a honeyish accent, candied orange peels fruitiness, with a mild coated sweet hops leafiness, hint of butterscotch in the aroma follows through on a full-bodied palate with a nice sweet dry piney flowery hops character, with a caramelized and toasted malt accents, with a peachy and fruity dry tangerine skin, and a subtle minty note, leading towards a dry piney hops bitterness finish.
