Very sweet flavor in the beginning a bit nutty, but soon the very full and bitter flavor kicks in. Very bitter finish. Difficult to rate other beers for a while after this one. rudolf (1783), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 19, 2004 Pretty. A much stronger head than I’ve ever seen before on an IIPA. Body is almost ruby. Big, resiny aroma with plenty of sweet malt. If I walked through a field of hops I would hope it would smell like this. This beer is really rich, almost a barleywine. Sweet malt w. well balanced hops. Sweet finish. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2005 Pours amber with a thick, creamy, off-white head that fades to a faint cover, nice lacing. The aroma is very full, pine, grapefruit, caramel and some notes of dark fruit. The flavor is pineapple, caramel and nuts with lots of piney, soapy hops, some woodyness. The finish is long, dry and bitter with lingering soapyness. 11026 (1779), Alabama, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 13, 2004 Bottle scored on a Tejas trip. Nice deep, clear amber. Head is huge, tan-orange in color, long lasting. Aroma is maltish, subdued hop. Taste is an slow start of malt and subtle hopping that finishes in a long, up-front hop assault. Really tasty. Would definitely have again. tjthresh (1779), Greenfield, Indiana, USA

Pours red with a huge tan resinous head. Aroma seems pour pine this time, with a candy sweetness. Very piney flavor with a splash of grapefruit. Brash bitterness. Oily palate. Certaily aggressive, but pleasant.

Tons of grapefruit aroma. as it warms I detect some Amarillos. Not a lot of malts here. Dark copper orange with a smallish beige head. As it warms, the head becomes very sticky. Nice. Bitterness overload. No too much balance. This thing grabs your tongue in a full nelson and has not intent of braking the hold. Medium body. Pretty puckering and astrigent. I’d take Hercules over most beer, but for IIPAs, very avarage.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 23, 2004 Pours a dark golden color with few bubbles and a nice head. Aroma is flowery hops, a little sweet. Body is malty but not overdone. Taste starts sweet and quickly becomes tangy, slightly tart hops. Alcohol is barely noticable. Finish is medium bitter, with a lot of sweet hoppy flavor going up through the nose. Some nutty chocolate elements very late in the finish, a nice touch. A very pleasent beer to drink. sneagrams3 (1759), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 11, 2006 12oz bottle. Hazy and reddish amber. Finger width of bone white head. Spicy, citrusy hop aroma. Floral aromas. Slight nutty malt note in the nose. Full lively and sticky sweet. Malt character is mild by comparison. The nutty caramel malt notes are short lived before the middle burn and the hop finish that totally dominate the palate. Strong hop notes with with a spicy, citrusy, peppery hop profile. As it warms, the nutty malts last a little longer. The Alcohol is a little more prevalent. The palate becomes softer. Not soft, but more rounded. The hops still dominate, but become stickier. Great aromas, Great body. Great beer, start to finish. All Aspects! tarjei (1755), Bryne, Norway
