Commercial Description:
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules' aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Awesome Imperial IPA, a true hop monster. Pours a beautiful deep clear amber with a thick off-white head. Aroma is floral hops and piney with a hint of mustiness, pine, vanilla and an alcohol zing. Delicious! Taste is extremely hoppy, with strong malt backing and notes of citrus, grapefruit, pine, tree sap and resiny hops. Sweet and sticky - a ton of malt to back up the hops in this one. Grapefruit rind, bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is very full, round and creamy. Medium carbonation. Great lacing and head retention. Highly recommended!

On tap at Dieu du Ciel (Montréal). Hazy amber body topped with a thin but lasting off-white foamy head. Good malty/hoppy aroma with spicy and herbal notes. Alcohol is perfectly hidden. Its sharp hoppy taste carries hints of pine and grapefruit. Ends with a long and robust bitter aftertaste. Very nice beer!

Pours reddish clear amber a lovely creamy off-white froth on top. Quality double IPA aroma of fresh hops, piney, pineapple, sweet citrus and sweet malt. First taste is slightly salty and pretty bitter. 85 IBU’s and I believe it. A little bit nutty and woody, not terribly sweet either. The bitter floral hop flavor is much more dominant than citrus. Some alcohol and pineapple in the finish, hot. Fluffy body, not sticky, actually somewhat light. A great double IPA... but no dreadnought =)

Every time I have this I find it to be pretty solid. Aroma is balanced. Lost of hops with caramel and grain. Good body and juicy hop flavor. Some caramel malts and citrus flavor. Grapefruit and lemon zest. Balanced.

This was basically the regular IPA with more hops. Same orange pour but a little bit darker hue. Good, but not as well balanced as the Pizza Port IIPA. Still impressive.

Bottle at the White Horse, 12th July 2008 with renffisch. Pours a cloudy russet colour with a lacy head. Great aroma of grassy hops, marzipan and brown sugar. Tastes superb - hops and malt in harmony. The alcohol is pretty evident and the palate is rich and smooth like an English barley wine. A very drinkable strong beer.

22 oz bomber from Canal’s Hainesport. Pours a hazy marmalade orange color with a smaller frothy off white head. Aroma of floral hops, caramel malts, slight citrus...specifically grapefruit, molasses and honey behind the citrus notes. Fuller bodied with stronger carbonation yet it works very well with the bitterness from the hops. Flavor is still showing tons of hops despite the weaker hops aroma. Bread notes, caramel malts and toffee help round this one out. Very nice and a solid beer but needs more aromatic hops or I need to buy a more recently released bottle, probably the latter and not the former.

22 oz bomber. Orange, clear, off white head. Big hop tea aroma. Seems even to be a nice blend of hops. Flavor is sweet first, with the flavor and bittering hops kicking in and lingering. Mouth feel is a little thin, and this seems to be well fermented. Tastes more like a barley wine to me, but with the overlapping styles of today, what do I know. This is a nice beer for the double IPA fan.
