Commercial Description:
English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Clear ruby red pour with a thin light tan head. Malt dominates the aroma - caramel and fruit. Very strong almost barley wine like, but roastier. Bitter roast flavor with fruit and lots of hops.

Dark brown and ruby pour with a short off white head that produced spotty lacing. The aroma was roasty and malty with light chocolate, spice and thin hops. The flavor was malty, lightly hoppy with some spice in there as well. Average mouthfeel. Just another winter warmer.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear reddish amber color with a medium sized fine beige head that leaves sporadic lacing. The aroma is very malty with doses of chocolate, caramel, and some nuts. There are also notes of hops that come through. The flavor is again malt driven, but the hops play a more prominent role. I get chocolate and caramel with citrus and pine hops. Medium to full bodied that warms as it goes down. This is a solid drinking beer especially as the temperatures are dropping.

Very nice body, warm strong, malty with a nice deep bitterness. It borders barleywine, but walks the line nicely and is quite drinkable. Alcohol hidden well. Nice.

An outstanding representation of the style. Poured from the bottle a dark amber with a nice fluffy head. The aroma is spicy and sweet. You can pull out dry fruits, cinnamon, caramel and other great winter treats. The taste is all of the above with a bit of toffee and chocolate. It is better a bit warmer then cold and it goes down smooth. Just great.

draft at barleys in greenville. pours a clear, dark amber with a soft, half inch white head that leads to great lacing on the glass. aroma is great with touches of roasted caramel malt, figs, plums, coriander, cinnamon and earthy hops. flavor is wonderful and unique. almost like drinking two different beers with dark malts, spice, and dark fruit up front with earthy hops and citrus on the back end. mouthfeel is slightly heavy that warms on the swallow. an excellent beer thats perfect for the winter.

bottle. very appealing, sweet aroma with toffee undertones- flavor was well balanced and smooth. a nice beer for sipping at home if your not due for a hop explosion. very earthy and subdued strong ale. Enjoyed.

Bottle at Redlight. Brown with a thick white head. Bouquet is hoppy with grapefruit and toasted malts. Heavy mouthfeel. Flavor reminds me of a pumpernickle bread with roasted malts, a good amount of hops and some winter spices. Very good.
