Inviting caramel aroma. Chocolate, ripe fruits and a rather pleasant whiff of alcohol too. Tasty. Spiced dark malts, roast, caramel, and a plummy fruitiness. Big chewy body. Fruity bitterness and ashy malts in the finish. A really nice beer. jeff789 (422), Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 28, 2008 Pour a nice ruby with a small head... Aroma of sweet roasted malts with an ever increasing alcohol nose as it warms.... Taste of sweet malt and bitter chocolate and the alcohol becomes apparent again as it warms... A slightly bitter alcoholy finish... Overall it was above average, but not the experience I was expecting... Steely (176), , Sweden
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 28, 2008 Brown color with a thick creamy tan head. Powerful sweet malty aroma with english toffe and hints of coffee. Promising aroma leads to a roasted malt flavor with a coffee bitter finish. A strong alcohol presence disturbes the flavor. pj1855 (158), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 28, 2008 Clear body. Amber in color. Heavy aroma of Pine and citrus. Medium body. Dry texture. Overpowering strong hoppy floral finish. Just not my style of beer. Not a fan of strong hops. AdamSkillin (376), High Bridge, New Jersey, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 27, 2008 I gave one of these to the owner of the best beer bar in my area (Circa, in High Bridge, NJ. It’s great, he knows his stuff). His question was "If this is winning silvers at GABF, who the heck is winning gold?!?!"
That’s basically how I feel. This is a strong beer that will give you a warm sensation going down without the alcohol heat in your mouth. The malty sweetness is just right and there’s hops that please without overpowering. One of the new beer world’s future classics for sure. pantanap (1369), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 21, 2008 Red-amber with big, foamy beige head / Sweet nose of caramel and dark fruit / Medium to full body, thick, malty but creamy, with good finish / Flavor of raisins, smoked, oak, caramel, and tobacco kiefdog (1639), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 21, 2008 12oz bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a generally clear dark mahogany with thick and puffy tan head. Some retention and lacing. Aroma has notes of coffee, hops, some warm milk, musty, hints of chocolate and toffee. Flavor is generally sweet and malty with notes of wood, hops, some slight molasses, cocoa, bakers chocolate and hints of nuts. Generally medium to full body with a bitter, coffee finish. Reducing the hop character on this beer (or aging it) would significantly improve the profile.
