Commercial Description:
English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

On tap at the brewery, dark amber color, with a beige head, grainy, toasted malt nose, with some caramel, brown chocolate, nutty accents, with a faint of dark dried fruits, and a light floral hop grassiness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate witha sweet warming, grainy, toasted malt character, with a fruity, caramel, toffeeish note, and a light flowery hop leafy accent, some faint coffee, mochaish flavors, leading towards a warmth, toasty, lingering hop piney, leafy bitterness finish.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of smoke, hops, chocolate, roasting, caramel, pine, and wood. Poured copper/amber in color with a small, dense, beige head that lasted throughout. Clear. Slightly sparkling. Very good lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, hops, pine, resin, and tar. Medium body. Average texture. Soft to average carbonation. Sweet, creamy, resinous finish.

Thanks to robert for sharing this bottle. Light brown in color. Aroma was smokey, brown sugar, pecan nuts. Taste was enourmous amount of smokey burnt roasted malts but in a good way. Also little coffee, caramal. I will have to pick a bottle for myself. Good beer! Thanks robert*****Update***** Just had my own bottle, I am very impressed with this beer. Nice roasted malt taste.. Slight trace of alcohol but gives you that nice warming feeling. Very rich. Good winter beer.

Almost everything I want in a beer. Dark red/Light brown pour. Aroma is big on the malt and hops. Piney hop coated with caramel, toffee light roast in the aroma. One whiff of this beer and you know what you’re in for. A smile is inevitable here. Flavor is a plethora of flavors: Grainy sweetness, earthy but in-your-face hops, cocoa dryness and a faint tropical fruit meld in to a symphony of ridiculousi flavorisi. Nutty aftertones dance around the palate after each sip: A little bonus! Every nuance seems to be in balance. This beer is a spectacle. Nearly a year old, this baby still has lots of life left in her. Wish I still had some left from last year but, luckily, this year’s batch is just around the corner! A luscious brew.

Bottle. Pours a mahogany brown body with an off white head. Roasty and sweet with caramel malt, chocolate, and nutty. A nice hop character with a rich warming. Great beer.

Had on draft. Poured a glowing red/amber with brown on the edges. Alcohol was strong in the aroma with roasted malt and faint floral hops. A great taste of roasted malts and molasses. The alcohol really came in strong at the finish with some hops.

Bottle. Poured deep teak red brown with thick white head. Aroma of caramel, malt and hop. Caramel and malty flavour, well balanced. Lingering finish, more malt and a bit of alcohol.

06 VIntage. Poured ruby amber color with small off white head. Aromas of malt, caramel, and some hops. Flavor was really smooth with almost a cherry taste. Alcohol is not present at all and damn, really liked this one.
