Commercial Description:
English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Reddish to brown in color with a decent head. Malts, espresso, and slight alcohol in the aroma. All of the contribute to the taste as well. Not too bad.

Dark red-brown color with a head that disappears quickly. Aroma is coffee, caramel, and hops. Surprisingly light on the palate, but really warms me up somehow. None of the flavors are very strong, but i get some hops, maybe some cherries, and a little caramel. A little coffee aftertaste. Not bad, but the flavors could be more distinct.

Interesting earthy aroma of caramel and hops with a light hint of coffee. Pours a beautiful dark ruby/copper color with a thin off-white head. Smooth, light body with a nice caramel maltiness at first and a strange lightly bitter coffee finish. Not everything I’d expect from a strong ale, I’d definitely take and ABA or DBA, but still good for a nice cold night.

Dark brown colored brew. Aroma is malty, chocolate. Bitter dark chocolate, hoppy, coffee, roasted malt and strong liquorice flavor. Overall a nice brew.

Draught - @ HDG. Another winner from Great Divide. I have been drinking gobs of this lately. Nice aroma some coffee and lots of hoppy tones. Pours brown and thick and looks impenetrable in the glass. It’s deftly balanced the hops, the malts, the roasted flavors and the alcohol. This is good beer.

Bottle that was given to me by Ian, Harrisoni. Many thanks for this one Ian, cheers Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma I think is ’Choco hops’ that’s my new word for big chocolate and hoppy aroma, Loz thinks dime bar. Nice initial fizzy bitterness, some cinder toffee, then good quality cocoa which slowly melts to reveal some nice milk chocolate flurries. The alcohol shows a little towards the end and the hops are ever present but they are well integrated here in this very well balanced tasty winters treat, loved it.
