Heavy and thick with a very rich malt base - Slightly bitter Chocolate and sweet vanilla blend well into the silky profile. Slightly smoked alder woody essence with hints of nuts. Great hop presence that is well served by the aging process. Really a fantastic drink - exemplar winter warmer. Sir+Drinksalot (30), Iowa, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2008 Really nice seasonal! A heavy malty laced amber ale. Some spices: maybe a little cinnamon? Great beer to sit back and drink while rest of family is arguing around the dinner table. Priceless. thebeertourist (2797), Oslo, Norway
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 11, 2008 Bottle. Clear bronze with a good yellowish head. Raisins meets citrussy hops in the nose- a pleasant blend. Rich nuts and raisins flavours, vinous qualities, some alcohol. Sirupy texture, full-bodied and rich. An extremely well-made beer- perfectly harmonious, but could it be more daring? Magicdave6 (5513), London, Greater London, England
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 11, 2008 Bottle thanks to thecheeseman! Aroma is full of chocolate malts and biscuity grainy hints. Taste is balanced sweet chocolate malts and again grainy biscuityness, which i like, balanced with a citrus hop resiny backing. Nice but too much roasty malt character. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 10, 2008 pours dark amber with an off-white head. The aroma offers a foreshadowing of the big malt and hops flavors that I’m sure are to come. Wow, the taste has a dark roasted malt character that I wasn’t expecting from the armoa. Nice surprise. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 10, 2008 Bottle: Clear, deep amber coloured, smaller, lacy off-white head, solid resinous hoppy nose, later underpinned by sweet dark and toasted malt; solid bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied; lingering resinous-hoppy finish, supported by sweet dark malt and followed by adry hoppy aftertaste. Good medicine....... MOboy (446), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2008 Pours a beautiful, rich, amber/copper colour, reminiscent of Bells Third Coast Ale. Caramel, alcohol and malt dominate the nose. Smooth, syrupy mouthfeel and a robust hop flavour that also hints of leather, malt, cream and alcohol. An interesting beer that proves to be dangerously drinkable. gotohelunc (473), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2008 Bottle. Slightly cloudy redish brown color with a slim, tan head. Nice aroma of roasted coffee beans, caramel, and nuts. The flavor is an interesting blend of hoppy bitterness and nuts. Nicely blended, clean finish. This is a winner of a winter brew.
