Commercial Description:
English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Pours a dark amber color with a great dark tan head with nice lacing. Aromas of coffee and nuts, with some roasted malts in the mix. Flavors of roasted nuts and and coffee with some chocolate and licorice. A pretty good beer.

(35.5cl bottle) Clear, reddish amber colour with a big, beige and slowly lacing foamy head. Moderately sweet toast-malty nose with caramel/toffee, lighter notes of liquorice and peppery spicy, slightly resiny hops. Bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Roasty malty taste with toffee combined with very subtle fruity notes, dark chocolate and liquorice spice; bitter-sweet, roasty and slightly piney hoppy finish with a long lasting, pretty aromatic aftertaste with an well-integrated alcoholic burn.

355ml bottle at Microbar, Clapham, 8th Jan 08, with tashi. Pours mid-brown with a ruby hint. Rich, malty aroma with notes of brie, smoked meat and soy. Great flavour of roasted malt, sweet malt, chocolate and a little smoke. The finish is smooth as silk with hoppy bitterness giving way to a deep alcoholic warmth. This is a great winter ale!

Nose of rich roasted caramel. Feel is very thick and heavy. Notes of chocolate in the flavor blend with the heavy dose of caramel and coffee. Sweet. Bitter hoppy finish. Alcohol warming present, but generally the alcohol is hidden well. Excellent.

Classic example of a drink where you like all the ingredients but it does mesh together perfectly - regardless; a fabulous drink. Heavy and thick with a very rich malt base - Slightly bitter Chocolate and sweet vanilla blend well into the silky profile. Slightly smoked alder woody essence with hints of nuts. Great hop presence that is well served by the aging process. Really a fantastic drink - exemplar winter warmer.

Really nice seasonal! A heavy malty laced amber ale. Some spices: maybe a little cinnamon? Great beer to sit back and drink while rest of family is arguing around the dinner table. Priceless.

Bottle. Clear bronze with a good yellowish head. Raisins meets citrussy hops in the nose- a pleasant blend. Rich nuts and raisins flavours, vinous qualities, some alcohol. Sirupy texture, full-bodied and rich. An extremely well-made beer- perfectly harmonious, but could it be more daring?
