Raisins meets citrussy hops in the nose- a pleasant blend. Rich nuts and raisins flavours, vinous qualities, some alcohol. Sirupy texture, full-bodied and rich. An extremely well-made beer- perfectly harmonious, but could it be more daring? Magicdave6 (5558), London, Greater London, England
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 11, 2008 Bottle thanks to thecheeseman! Aroma is full of chocolate malts and biscuity grainy hints. Taste is balanced sweet chocolate malts and again grainy biscuityness, which i like, balanced with a citrus hop resiny backing. Nice but too much roasty malt character. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 10, 2008 pours dark amber with an off-white head. The aroma offers a foreshadowing of the big malt and hops flavors that I’m sure are to come. Wow, the taste has a dark roasted malt character that I wasn’t expecting from the armoa. Nice surprise. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 10, 2008 Bottle: Clear, deep amber coloured, smaller, lacy off-white head, solid resinous hoppy nose, later underpinned by sweet dark and toasted malt; solid bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied; lingering resinous-hoppy finish, supported by sweet dark malt and followed by adry hoppy aftertaste. Good medicine....... MOboy (446), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2008 Pours a beautiful, rich, amber/copper colour, reminiscent of Bells Third Coast Ale. Caramel, alcohol and malt dominate the nose. Smooth, syrupy mouthfeel and a robust hop flavour that also hints of leather, malt, cream and alcohol. An interesting beer that proves to be dangerously drinkable. gotohelunc (476), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2008 Bottle. Slightly cloudy redish brown color with a slim, tan head. Nice aroma of roasted coffee beans, caramel, and nuts. The flavor is an interesting blend of hoppy bitterness and nuts. Nicely blended, clean finish. This is a winner of a winter brew. Clear mahogany color with a 2 finger khaki head, nice lacing.
Strong smell of blackened malts, roasted nuts, chocolate with a whiff of fresh hops.
Full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel.
Great taste follows the smell with rich, roasted malts and nuts with a lightly bitter hop and alcohol taste to finish.
Only 8 days in the bottle it’s one of the freshest brews I’ve tried.
This beer also ages quite well if you’re the cellaring type.
A very good winter brew here.
