Commercial Description:
English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Deep brown nearly black in color. Malt aroma, coffee/chocolate flavor that is very smooth. Nice hop flavor. Overall a very good beer.

In trade with beerandblues2. Pours a lovely amber brwon with a minimal head. Malt rich nose also gives off hints of vanilla and almonds and a skash of day old coffe sitting in a paper cup. No shit! Body is malts and a helping of hopsaracter. Chalky finish with some booziness. maybe its the East Coaster in me, maybe I was tired, maybe I should blame it on that asshole in the whitehouse. I’m not sure, but the chalkiness at end of body lasted until seemingly forever and overshadowed all other aspects of this brew. Even the zany way the light came thru the tulip as nearly prue ruby red. Maybe I need more sleep. I’d like to try this one again....yah hear that Mr. Blue? I’m figgin that the old tastbuds were a bit tired.

12oz bottle-A dark amber light brown body with a nice big tan head which has an aroma of dark roasted malt, coffee, caramel, and slight sweetness. Taste if full bodied with roasted malt, caramel, apple, and slight alcohol. A very well balanced Strong Ale. Great for a cold winter night.

Nose of dried fruits, berries, port, malt rum and alcohol. Reminiscent of a bitter. Ruby/garnet red coloured beer. Taste is malty, sweet, alcohol burn, molasses, lemon. All in all a measured, mature and balanced oak tasting beer. Nice.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Brennan’s Country Farm Market in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Pours a dark reddish copper amber with a thick off-white head that leaves behind some spotty lacing and off-white ring. Aroma of sweetened caramel malt, some apple, flowery hops and some hard fruit character. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of sweet caramel malt, some fruity apples, and a touch of brown sugar. Finish is semi-sweet at first and then a dry bitter aftertaste with some caramel and apple flavors. The alcohol level is detected when served extremely cold, but once brought to a more room temperature the real beer flavor comes through.

12 oz. bottle from Broudy’s at Jax Beach. Pours a nice "brown ale" color with a slight white head. Aroma is very malty. Taste is, for lack of a better term, "Booyah!". All malts, really nice caramel and roasted malts taste with a slight bite of hops on the end. What a beer!

Pours a dark copper/brown with a big foamy tan head that leaves plenty of sticky lacing. This was a warm-ish pour, as I found this tastes better when it’s not straight-from-the-fridge cold. Aroma is rather subdued, but the flavor on this is HUGE and unique. Caramel, brown sugar, coffee, chocolate and some spice. Rich creamy velvety mouthfeel with just the right amount of carbonation. Gently warming. Wonderful, wonderful brew. Haven’t encountered a Great Divide brew I didn’t like. Highly recommend!

12 oz bottle at Maggie’s Attic. Dark red pour with minimal head. Chocolate malt, coffee, and hops all come out in the aroma, but hops are nicely subdued and balance the coffee/chocolate well. Thick chocolate malt taste with a coffee dryness that make this finish very nicely. Very good balance throughout this beer, a nice winter warmer.
