Commercial Description:
English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Deep dark brown with a soap-like thin head. Aroma is smoky and fruity sweet. Flavor is roasted and sweet with malt along with some spices. Finishes very dry.

Poured with a sparkling ruby color. The head is just a continuation of such a crystal clear and deep red, it hangs around and doesn’t leave the party too soon. Initially picked up some berry fruits in the aroma but settled into good hop aroma and stronger roasted grains. First sip is toastier than expected but warms as it goes down. Finsihes with moderate spice. Just makes me want to go to sleep.

2007 vintage. Clear mahogeny, ruby when held to light. Strong Nestle Qwik aroma arises upon pouring a chilled bottle. However, alcohol, caramel, and raisin-brandy become much more apparent upon warming to room temp. Substantial amount of hops and not enough earthy/woody/peat flavor or sourness for me to consider it an Old Ale, (as the side of the bottle indicates). Notwithstanding, malt clearly dominates. Oily palate. Finish similar to an American Barleywine.

on cask at falling rock. Chocolate and cops on the nose of this dark brown beer with amber highlights. Crazy mouthfeel and faint head. Chocolate malt and light coffee with a hop finish and light caramel hint.

355 ml, 2007 vintage. Clear copper-brown with red highlights. Medium-large and lasting head. Aroma is roasted coffee and dry cocoa. Big earthy-woody roasted flavor: dried nuts and cocoa, with some slightly sweetened coffee, raisins, and a nice touch of sourish cream. Palate is medium-heavy, smooth, and finishes dry. Awesome brew that makes me want to do battle with an elk using a butcher knife. Whoever wins gets to sit next to the fire in the cabin, cook the loser, and sip this ale.

very dark amber on the pour with a one finger head light tan head. very sweet malt smell right off the bat. nice thickness on the palate and just the amount of malts on top of all the flavor.

Amber body with small off white head. Aroma is caramel malts and light allspice. Quite rich upfront with a sweet profile before drying and hinting of a brandy burn as it goes down.

Bottle. Ruby / amber pour with a very thin head. Malty aroma with hints of oranges and yeast. The malt aroma actually reminds me of the sam adams oktoberfest. The carbonation is a little high. I don’t think the dry-hopped flavor goes well with the malt in this one. It just doesn’t blend or progress well.
