This beer has a nose of toffee, sweet malts, and a little spice. The taste is much the same with sugary caramel as well. The alcohol is nicely hidden. Great winter brew. gunnar (582), Sandnes, Norway

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 25, 2009 Bottle served in a snifter. Watery clear brownish-amber in color. Doesn’t really have a head when poured at fridge temperature. Still, the nose is expressive. Malty, dark chocolate, caramel, and slightly doughy. Medium body, prickly carbonation. Ultra-long sticky bittern finish. Some oil and alcohol is present. Nice. Totochtin (17), Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Nov 25, 2009 Pours a clear dark ruby copper brown with beige head. Aroma is resiny hops, some fruit, chocolate and carmel. Taste starts with sweet malt - caramel, chocolate, toasty - changing to citrusy fruit and finishing with piney bitterness. Average carbonation and a lighter body than you’d expect from the flavor and abv. Quite flavorful and drinkable. I’d probably like it even more with a bit more age on it (bottled Nov. 5, tasted Nov. 25). Hopper (336), San Antonio, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 25, 2009 A reddish-brown beer with a nice but disappearing head. The aroma is fruity with some alcohol. The taste was fruity with berries coming out the most with some cocoa dust at the end. This is definitely an old man’s beer meant for sipping & seems could do some good ageing. dnoaksson (179), , Sweden

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 24, 2009 355 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.7%. Beautiful clear and deep copper to mahogany coloured beer, big off-white to beige head. Strong malty aroma with distinct notes of caramel and bakery. The flavour has loads of malty sweetness and caramel, maybe too much caramel for my taste. Noticeable hoppy bitterness in the finish, also notes of burnt bread crumbs. Not entirely balanced in my book, but an interesting beer all the same. beeratarian (11), cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 22, 2009 I anticipate this beer every year. This is one of the best yet. Higher ABV makes this a real bang for the buck. Very roasty and malty for an old ale, but nonetheless perfect. Hops mingle in and out to try and tame the malt. Can’t wait to try this one in a year or two. A must have for beer lovers of all types.
