Nose is dusty chocolate, not quite grapes, not quite raisins. Rich caramel maltiness. Flavor is robust malt, raisins, lightly astringent hops, dark chocolate. Finish has cocoa, raisins, tingly hops. Somewhat slick mouthfeel. halfonit (479), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 12, 2009 Has a deep dark amber color. Aroma is of roasted malts, dried fruit, and some caramel. Taste is of sweeter malts, chocolate, caramel, and a little dried fruit in the back end. Leaves a bitter sweet aftertaste. This is a pretty good brew. Lawsonciv (28), Norman, Oklahoma, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 9, 2009 Very malty aroma, smoky with no hop smell. Dark pour. Tan head. Smoky flavor. Strong alcohol aftertaste. Not bad but not for me. Angelmonster (23), Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 8, 2009 Aroma is very big on malt. Similar to a scotch ale, with lots of oak and smokiness. No real presence of hops.
Pours a 2 finger tan head, body is dark brown. Head retention and lacing are barely above average
Flavor is similar to the smell but better. The smoke comes out more and there is a bit of vanilla which could pass as the oak aged version. There is an aftertaste of warming alcohol that isnt too overpowering but is nice for this style. Hops come in and out and balance nicely with the sweetness of the malt
Mouth feel is good. Carbonation is a bit on the aggressive side but body has some substance to balance things.
Overall it is pretty good. For such a high abv beer its somewhat session able. Great beer for cold nights, definitely a malt bomb, sweet, smoky, and just enough bitterness. Another very good beer from Great Divide. dwaggs2 (561), Lee’s Summit, Missouri, USA

Aroma is sweet malts, caramel, and yeast. Flavor is caramel, some alcohol, and plenty of malts. Very good. Very balanced. Flavors all come together to make a great beer. Warms as it goes. I love it! Very pretty to look at. The flavors are so varied in this one it’s fantastic. I get soy sauce, smoke, peat smoke, toffee, hops, and some beef jerky. Mmmm. Very interesting and cold weathery! phaleslu (557), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 5, 2009 Bottle as part of a tasting at Catskeller. Pours a clear copper color with a medium-sized tan head. Chocolate and caramel malts on the nose along with hops, brown sugar, and wood. The flavor follows suit, with more caramel and wood coming through. Medium bodied, rich, smooth, and very dry, with warming alcohol. Nice warming winter ale. MJGG (423), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
