Commercial Description:
Hoss is based on the Märzen lagers of Germany. Rich, layered malt notes, with some hints of cherry and dark notes, dominate while the unique addition of rye imparts a slightly earthy, spicy character. Hoss finishes crisp and dry, and its brilliant red-orange color is a toast to the late-summer sunsets that make the perfect backdrop for this beer.

Bottle. Pretty sublime beer all the way around. Very little discernible aroma; And not much of a distinct or measurable flavor component either -- mostly just an easy-drinking, lightly malty, very lightly spicy beer, with a distinct creamy consistency. (#3726, 10/31/2009)

12 oz bottle courtesy of the Binnys singles rack (Orland Park, IL). Pours a nice dark muted light copper, fiery, transparent, well carbonated with a decent offwhite head that dies to a decent film. Aromas are a bit of stinky pilsner type malts, noble hops, a bit of caramel, rye malts. Initial is lightly sweet, caramel and rye work together towards an earthy noble hops bitterness, mild bitterness, sweetness, a touch of stinkiness. Decent body, rye comes in further into the taste, bready with biscuits, nice flavors but simple. Sticks to the palate ok, sessionable for sure and honestly, I like a beer with a more assertive malt profile, especially as a lager. Clean, very light bitterness and ok malt stick on the backend and aftertaste.

Bottle. Light aromas of grain and herbs for the malt and hops, and a hint of toffee and wood. Head is average size, frothy, slightly off-white with spotty lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is sparkling clear amber/orange. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic, then the long finish is lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation and a lightly dry finish. Light in just about every respect but still a good drinking Marzen.

THE HOSS! Pours a dark copper color, with a foamy white head. Smells of yeast, hops, some caramel malt, and a hint of toffee in there too. The flavor is kind of the same, although has more a yeasty texture going on, with hops in the background. Got a little fruity sweetness in there too. Pretty easy drinking brew with decent flavor but nothing special.

Tap at Blind Tiger: Clear deep orange pour. Crisp spicy Munich malts are evident in the aroma with a grassy presence- nice and clean. Light body- the flavor has some grainy/spicy malt notes. Very clean with a light peppery noble hop grassiness. A solid German style lager.

This one poured a bright yellow and slightly orange color with a fluffly white head. Aroma was slighlty sweet malt, some rye as well. Flavor was a bit toasted, pale malts and a slightly bitter rye finish.

pours amber-orange, white head Aroma is malty with hints of floral hops and rye. Flavor, soapy hops, rye, malt, some spices. Crisp rye, full body with a light touch of hops. End sis malty/caramel, spicy with a right balanced finish that make this one a nice märzen a nice rye/mat/hop finish that complement each other.
