Commercial Description:
HotShot ESB is an easy-drinking and remarkably smooth Extra Special Bitter, brewed in the classic-English style. More assertively hopped than ordinary bitters, light copper-colored HotShot showcases clean hop flavors, balanced by its slightly fruity nose and light-caramel malt character.

Definately a tasty beer, but not really what I would classify as an ESB. Overall, it could have been a little more hoppy, I guess you could say I would be happier if it was hoppier. I bought this for myself and the Great Divide Denver pale ale for a friend, and we both thought the pale ale was hoppier but not as clean and smooth as the ESB. I enjoyed it, but I won’t give it high marks.

While this has a good citrus smell and taste, it is not one of the best bitters I have had. However, it does not has as an aggressive hoppiness in comparison to other ESBs. It is very smooth and clean taste, as well as finish, and does not leave a nasty aftertaste (according to my wife who hates bitters). For an ESB, I did expect more of an aggressive hoppy bite. Overall, I would say it is mediocre, but would be good on hot days.

This is not my favorite take on this style. A sweet hop aroma, with some bitter maltiness, that is almost chalky, a hint of caramel, full of citrus, and just very ordinary and never seem to go anywhere, very one dimensional.

First off, I’m a fan of a decent beer I can get at the grocery store. Poured a translucent red-amber color with a white head. Semi-sweet hoppy aroma. The taste was the same, and a little bitter but in a good way. I’ll also always associate it with a great night spent with a beautiful woman I thought I’d never have a chance with.

Pours a medium amber color. Aromas of caramel malt, hops, and a touch of citrus. Caramel sweetness in the taste with a good bitterness of hops.

I had this beer for a month or so and finally decided to try it; I’m not a big fan of ESBs. This poured yellowish with a HUGE head. I had a four inch head in the glass and couldn’t drink it for a while. Everything else was normal for ESB.
