Commercial Description:
Our homage to the beers that have quenched the thirst of Belgian farm workers for centuries. Brewed with barley, wheat and rice and fermented at high temperatures with a special blend of four different yeast strains, Saison is fruity and slightly tart, with a dry finish that makes it that rarest of treats–a beer as refreshing as it is complex. 7.3% ABV.

the aroma is a terrible funky smell. the taste is not as bad with a light flavorful taste lots of astringent in the end. the rest falls short, not quite what I am looking for.

The aroma is wild and funky and like a bathroom with sweet malt, cloves, and grassy hops. The appearance is cloudy gold with a foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is average for the style. Overall this is not that good.

Sampled at Max’s American Beer Fest. Pours a transparent, straw gold with a ringing white head. Aroma of perfume, grass, sweet tarts and clove. Flavors are similar, sweet tarts, cloves dominate with some grapefruit. Very soft on the palate and slightly chalky. Nice.

Pours cloudy golden, with a medium white head, good lacing. Aroma of sour apple, honey, bread, hay and grass. Medium-thin body, very tart, crisp and slightly dry. Tastes of sour apple, barley, caramel, with some floral and grassy flavors in the finish and aftertaste.

Bottle… Hazy yellow ale with a small, flimsy, white head. Spicy nose provides pale grains, yellow and fuzzy fruits. Medium-bodied with middling carbonation. Well-balanced and spicy with mild, metallic bitterness and very light acidity. Lengthy, crisp, spicy, aluminum/nickel finish.

22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy yellow with a frothy white head that quickly diminishes to a thin collar.

The aroma is musty yeast and some light banana and cloves.

The flavor is musty yeast with a surprising sweet sugary fruitiness at the finish. The alcohol isn’t obvious at all. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with light carbonation and kind of watery.

Overall, not a bad summer beer, but not too interesting for a saison - a little too sweet and the sweet sugary fruits don’t jive well with the yeast funk.

I’m not a huge fan of Saisons, but this offering from Great Divide is an excellent rendition of the style. This beer pours a bright straw color with an ample white head. The head leaves a generous amount of lacing around the glass. The nose is full of fruits, yeast and earth. The flavors are fairly sweet, with notes of yeast, grapes, bread and orange. The finish is a bit sweet, as well, but with a nice malty tone. This beer is quite refreshing and a real depature from most Saisons. I really enjoyed this one!
