zeke626 (301), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Dec 29, 2008 Bottle, pours a clear brown body with ruby tones and a creamy, light brown head. Aroma of toasted malts with hints of cocoa, coffee, and vanilla. Flavor is a mix of coffee and chocolate malts finishing with a burnt malt taste. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel and light carbonation. Bottled Nov 25, 2008. nathan30533 (138), Dahlonega, Georgia, USA Dec 29, 2008 Very smooth in the mouth. Smell and taste the Chocolate in this porter. Does have a bit of a burnt or roasted taste. Pours dark with a lite colored head. Overall good chocolate porter. RasterMaster (120), , Oklahoma, USA Dec 28, 2008 Dark brown pour into thick tan frothy and lingering creamy head which dissipates into heavy lacings on the glass. Balanced aroma of sweet chocolate and roasted coffee malts. Initial flavor of sweet malty and dark malty chocolate barley hoppiness which quickly fades to lingering smoked malty finish. mansquito (819), Boston/Philadelphia, USA Dec 22, 2008 Pours an almost black color and has a brown head. Aroma is like most porters. This one focuses on the chocolate and roasted dark malts. Flavor has some coffee and a lot of chocolate to it. It is a smooth porter and not offensive to even the most mild sensibility. Not a robust porter as a previous reviewer noted (my archetype of that porter style is smuttynose). Overall quite nice. Great Divide does not like to disappoint. rustychiles (1007), Mesa, Arizona, USA Dec 20, 2008 Pours a dark brownish black with a light brown head. Aroma is chocolate, smoky roasted grains and dark malts. Flavor is coffee, chocolate malt with a quite thin and watery mouthfeel. Not as robust as I like em, but a decent session porter. thornecb (1736), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Dec 17, 2008 Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Mocha head recedes leaving no lacing. Smoked dark chocolate aromas. Upfront lightly carbonated with chocolate and smoke, but well-balanced with slight hops in the dry finish. Ethereal (1500), London, Greater London, England Dec 17, 2008 Bottle at Orsted Olbarog with harrisoni and Fin. Very dark brown/near black with not much head. Vegetable aroma and the same vegetable-esque American chocolate flavour - think Hersheys. Soft palate. Weak overall. bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Dec 13, 2008 Pours the deepest mahogany, almost opaque black into the glass, with a light head that thins to a cap down the glass. Light roasted malts to the nose. The flavors are very complex, with some semi-sweet chocolate and roasts to the tongue. The finish is of very light bitters, more noticed on the back-palate than anywhere else. A decent session brew, nothing overt or multi-dimensional, but just ok. A perfect offering for someone "getting into" porters, but not a top-tier selection.
